Marine Biologist, Intermediate to Senior

We are currently looking for a Marine Biologist that has 5 to 10 years of environmental permitting and monitoring experience on projects in and around aquatic habitats to join our growing team of dedicated professionals.

Responsibilities will include managing environmental permitting and compliance monitoring projects and leading project teams. Will also include mentoring junior staff, meeting client expectations, managing client deliverables, and writing / reviewing technical reports.

Types of projects may include construction, demolition and dredging of marine and/or freshwater sites and adjacent upland areas in the greater Vancouver region, throughout British Columbia and possibly in other provinces or territories.

The successful candidate will be expected to understand regulatory processes and required technical inputs for approvals and reviews related to the Fisheries Act , Water Sustainability Act and other key legislation for work in and around water in British Columbia. They will have demonstrable experience scoping project tasks with assistance from senior professionals and be capable of preparing high-quality deliverables for senior review on time and on budget.

The successful candidate is expected to be well-organized, solution-oriented and be able to communicate professionally and effectively to colleagues, clients, regulatory agencies and others as required. They will be capable of managing multiple tasks and assignments and have excellent attention to detail for identifying and tracking requirements from permits, management plans and contract requirements.

Specific training, education and performance requirements include:

• A valid drivers license and access to a vehicle for site visits.
• Hold a B.Sc. degree or higher.
• Registered as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBIO), or pending application

Preference will be given to candidates that:

• Are registered in good standing with a regulatory body governed by the Professional Governance Act of British Columbia.
• Can demonstrate experience in leading the preparation of or being a professional of record on technical reports and plans used to obtain environmental approvals or comply with permit or contract requirements, such as: aquatic effects and residual impact assessments and other environmental assessments; environmental management and/or protection plans; habitat offsetting plans and habitat balance tables; fish and fish habitat monitoring plans; and construction monitoring reports to meet approval requirements.
• Can demonstrate experience conducting and/or coordinating environmental monitoring of marine construction or dredging, water quality monitoring, sediment sampling, intertidal and subtidal biophysical surveys, underwater video or remotely operated vehicle surveys, species at risk desktop and field assessments, fish detection surveys, underwater noise monitoring and marine mammal observing.
