The Mission: Elevating Global Collaboration

As an FX Outsource Artist , your primary responsibility is to supervise and support the creation of real-time effects by our outsourcing vendors. You are the “front-line” for creative feedback, ensuring that every spark, explosion, and trail aligns perfectly with the game’s aesthetic and technical requirements.

You will spend your time documenting pipelines, creating “gold-standard” examples, and providing paintovers or block-outs that clarify the visual direction for external artists. This role is about fostering enthusiasm and maintaining a high level of technical rigor across remote teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Creative Supervision & Feedback

• Visual Alignment: Work with Art Leads and Directors to establish the visual direction for all FX being created externally.
• Actionable Feedback: Provide clear, professional, and timely creative feedback on work submitted for review.
• Problem Solving: Use your expertise in weight, timing, and motion to critique and improve the quality of external assets.
• Paintovers & Block-outs: Create simple visual guides or paintovers to bridge the gap between written notes and artistic execution.

2. Documentation & Pipeline Support

• Asset Packaging: Collect and package all necessary files, photo references, and video guides to send to external partners.
• Standard Setting: Generate detailed documentation and technical examples of art asset production to ensure external vendors understand Psyonix’s specific engine requirements.
• Training: Train outsource artists in Psyonix-specific techniques and best practices to ensure seamless integration into the project.

3. Stakeholder Management

• Internal Synergy: Relay creative goals and technical constraints between internal level designers, game designers, and production teams.
• Licensed Content: Work with internal stakeholders and IP owners to secure approvals for licensed assets, ensuring brand integrity is maintained across all FX.
• Culture: Foster a sense of enthusiasm and inclusion within remote teams, making them feel like a true extension of the Epic family.

Candidate Profile

Epic Games is looking for a world-class artist who is as comfortable in a technical shader graph as they are in a high-pressure production meeting.

Technical Requirements

• Proven Track Record: Experience shipping AAA titles across multiple platforms.
• Artistic Style: High-quality production experience with an emphasis on stylized art and stylized realism.
• Portfolio: A strong portfolio demonstrating executed real-time FX (particles, shaders, and dynamic elements).

• Software Mastery: * Expert knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 .

• Proficiency in Substance Painter , Perforce , and major 3D modeling packages.
• Experience with Houdini , Shotgrid (Flow) , or Miro is a significant plus.
