Secondary Inclusion Support Coordinator

Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools (NLPS) is seeking a skilled and experienced person to join our Inclusion Support Team, as a Secondary Inclusion Support Coordinator (ICS) for a 1.0 FTE temporary contract commencing September 1, 2026, or as soon as practicable, through until June 30, 2027. Working with students from Grade 8 to 12 and closely with school-based teams and district staff, the Coordinator will provide leadership, coaching, and consultation to strengthen capacity in inclusive learning environments.

As such, the successful candidate and Coordinator will have demonstrated expertise in behaviour intervention, functional behaviour assessment, and the development and implementation of individualized support plans. Along with strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as experience with making data-informed decisions. 

The Coordinator's work aligns closely with the priorities of the NLPS Strategic Plan and the District’s commitment to improving student outcomes through inclusive practices, responsive supports, and evidence‑informed decision‑making. A strong understanding of trauma‑informed approaches and culturally responsive practices are essential, along with experience supporting diverse behavioural and learning needs, within a classroom setting. Classroom teaching experience in a secondary school setting is preferred. The successful applicant will bring an understanding of local Indigenous perspectives and will help foster learning environments that honour the histories, cultures, identities, and strengths of all learners, with particular attention to priority populations.

More about the Role - Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists teachers and Education Assistants to differentiate instruction.
• Assists in identifying student strengths and needs.
• Assists with determining appropriate goals and objectives on Individual Education Plans.
• Provides consultative support/mentorship to staff in: Functional curriculum; Social thinking and social skills training; Sensory management strategies; Life skills programming; and Toileting and self-help programming.
• Assists in identifying materials and equipment required for student programs.
• Provides training for classroom teachers and Education Assistants in the use of assistive technology.
• Provides/arranges in-service regarding inclusion practices.
• Models and provides information regarding inclusive practices.
• Facilitates transitions from grade to grade, post-graduation, and elementary to secondary school.
• Coordinates and provides weekly supervision of the Friday Therapeutic Swim Program for students with low incidence special education needs attending with their education assistants.
• Acts as local District Partner for the Ministry of Education Provincial Outreach Program.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• BC Teacher Regulation Branch certification (preferred) or certification from the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists or a registered member of the College of Occupational Therapists of BC.
• A Master’s Degree in Special Education, Board Certified Behaviour Analyst, Occupational Therapy, or equivalent.
• Experience and training related to school settings.

Assignment:   Temporary Contract, September 1, 2026, or as soon as practicable, to June 30, 2027 (1.0 FTE)

Salary: $62,657 - $113,004 per annum
