Position Summary

The Communications Officer plays a key role in creating and executing effective communication strategies to promote and enhance the organization’s image, brand, and activities. The role places a strong emphasis on handling social media platforms, media relations, and providing administrative support to ensure seamless internal and external communications.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Management

• Develop and execute social media strategies across various platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn) to increase brand awareness and engagement.


• Create, curate, and manage content, including writing, editing, and publishing posts, images and videos.


• Monitor social media channels, respond to inquiries, and engage with followers to foster a positive community.


• Analyze social media metrics and prepare reports to track the effectiveness of campaigns and strategies.


• Execute paid advertising and boosting campaigns to drive growth.

Content Creation

• Draft and edit content for newsletters, press releases, reports, and other communication materials.


• Utilize Canva and/or other desktop applications to produce visually appealing and cohesive marketing materials.


• Ensure all content aligns with the organization’s voice, style, and branding guidelines.

Media Relations

• Assist in managing relationships with media outlets and journalists.


• Support the coordination of interviews, press conferences, and media appearances for organizational spokespeople.

Storytelling

• Develop campaigns to elevate and uplift stories of Indigenous youth entrepreneurs.


• Showcase youth entrepreneurship impact and demonstrate the significant impact of supporting youth entrepreneurs through data-driven reports and presentations, aimed at engaging stakeholders.


• Assist in preparing and distributing announcements and other communication materials.

Event Planning

• Help plan and coordinate events, including logistics, vendor management and on-site support.


• Assist in the creation of event materials such as agendas, programs, and promotional items.

Other

• Maintain organized records of communications activities, media contacts, and other relevant information.


• May be requested to undertake other related duties as required.


• Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

Qualifications

Education

• The ideal candidate for this role will have a minimum 2-year College Diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or Marketing.


• While a post-secondary degree is preferred, candidates with a combination of relevant experience and education may also be considered.

Experience

• Minimum 1-3 years of experience in communications, media, public relations, or related roles.


• Prior experience working with Indigenous communities and/or organization is preferred.

Abilities, Skills & Knowledge

• Proficiency in modern productivity tools, social media management tools, content management systems, and analytics platforms.

Primary Location: Ottawa, Ontario. IPF operates on a hybrid work model. Remote work arrangements may be considered based on organizational needs and role responsibilities.
