About Project Abraham

Project Abraham was founded in 2015 by a small group in Toronto to help bring Yezidi refugees to Canada. We have since become a registered charity, focusing on helping the most vulnerable refugees in the GTA.

Our mission is to provide aid and assistance to refugees and immigrants in need who are victims of war, genocide, persecution, illegal discrimination, or natural disasters.

We provide settlement services, education, counselling, and other support services including language instruction, tutoring for school age children, informational programs on Canadian culture and life. We partner with other organizations to deliver other needed services, such as job search, and mental health support.

Executive Director Job Search

Project Abraham is conducting a search for a new Executive Director (ED). Our current ED will be retiring in Spring 2024.

Project Abraham is a small organization with a $700,000 budget, five full-time staff and ten contract/consultative staff.

The ED leads and manages Project Abraham, overseeing its human resources, operations, finances, programs, staff and volunteers. The ED carries out Project Abraham's mission according to the strategic direction of the board of directors, reports results to the board and seeks their guidance regarding policies and initiatives. The ED drives strategic planning, fundraising, and stakeholder relationships to achieve our mission.

Executive Director Role and Responsibilities:

As the Executive Director, you will be responsible for the following:

Organizational Management and Governance

· Work with and support the Board to set strategic directions and key performance metrics, monitor the outputs and activities of the organization

· Support and report to the Board of Directors and Board Committees on all aspects of the organization's internal and external work

· Lead development of the annual plan and budget with support from finance committee and accounting services

· Ensure fund-raising campaigns and programs are aligned with strategic directions and plan

· Oversee budgets, and funder contracts

· Attract and engage volunteers by developing and implementing a volunteer engagement strategy

· Collaborate with Program Manager to ensure continuous improvement of programs through evaluation and data collection

· Develop and implement plan for office space/file storage, in-person meeting space

Fundraising and Stewardship

· Guide the development and implementation of a fundraising strategy, including researching funding options and writing grant proposals

· Work with Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers to develop sustainable revenue and funding opportunities to support all initiatives

· Oversee the research, growth, and improve current programs and initiatives, including community and public events

· Serve as the face of the organization and participate in external events to increase visibility, credibility, and develop strategic partnerships to increase community awareness

· Build relationships with potential and current supporters, including government funders, corporate sponsors, foundations, and individual donors

· Oversee all external communications, including website, newsletters and social media

Requirements for the Executive Director Role:

Demonstrates the following skills/experience (preferably through a management role in a non-profit environment):

· Ability to engage professionally with stakeholders, staff, and politicians

· Experience with information technology, including Microsoft Office platforms

· Evaluation of annual and multi-year strategic and operational plans

· Oversight of budget and audits

· Experience with risk identification and mitigation

· Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion policies

· Experience with fundraising, including relationship-building, proposal development, stewardship, compliance with charitable requirements, and budget management

· Strong leadership skills developed through managing a workplace team

· Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills

Terms of Employment:

The position will be 3-4 days/week with option of expansion to full-time, one-year renewable contract, depending on the funding status of Project Abraham.

Salary: $70,000 - $90,000/year prorated to number of days

Benefits: 4 weeks paid leave plus statutory holidays

Location: Hybrid work model, office location in GTA, TBD
