Team Leader – Skating

Up to 3 Casual Positions

G.R. Pearkes Recreation Centre is seeking enthusiastic and responsible individuals for the position of Team Leader – Skating . As a member of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department at G.R. Pearkes Recreation Centre, the Team Leader will provide direction and support to skating instructors and contribute to the successful delivery of a variety of skating instructional programs for all ages and skill levels. This position plays a key role in ensuring a positive, safe, and engaging experience for all program participants.

The Team Leader is responsible for overseeing on-duty staff, monitoring program and facility safety, setting up the arena for scheduled activities, and responding to emergencies. This position also involves communicating with patrons, organizing games and activities, maintaining equipment and supplies, and ensuring that staff follow established protocols. Teaching skating lessons during shifts is also expected as part of the role.

Requirements include : completion of Grade 12; a minimum of two years of experience as a skate patrol attendant, including two years of experience in skate instruction; Emergency First Aid with CPR-C; and certification in the Greater Victoria Active Communities Skate Instructor Course or an equivalent such as Canskate Instructor, CanPowerskate Instructor, or NCCP skating-related certification. A satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector clearance (PIC-VS), no older than six months, is required.

The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including daytime, after school, evenings, and weekends; hours and schedules are subject to change based on program needs.
