Department: Ambulatory Care Clinic

The Surgical Clinic operates several days a week in the Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU), handling minor surgical procedures, follow-up post-operative appointments and consultations. Day surgery patients (adults and children) receive pre and post-operative care in the day surgery department. A variety of services can have outpatient day surgery procedures: General surgery, Dental surgery, Ear, nose and throat, Orthopedics, Urology, Gynecology.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

• Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required (recent within past twelve months)
• Certification in IV therapy required
• Therapeutic Phlebotomy certification required
• Capillary Blood Glucose testing certification required
• Wound debridement certification required
• Wound Management including vac dressings an asset
• Experience in surgical nursing acute care setting and ambulatory clinics required

Skills/Abilities :

• Must be willing to function within the RPN full scope of practice
• Ability to identify and address health teaching needs required
• Ability to participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team with the ability to function well in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment required
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position required
• Ability to work with minimal supervision required
• Strong demonstrated assessment skills/history taking required
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) required
• Basic computer knowledge required
• Good attendance and work record required
• Must be available for scheduled shifts and call-ins
• Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
• Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
• Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
