Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Internal & External Communications, the Senior Advisor, Communications is responsible for developing, leading and executing major projects in support of the communications function, in close alignment with stakeholder relations.

1. Participate in the fulfillment of department strategy and support of ESA’s business plan. 2.

2. Act as a lead in project planning and execution of major internal and external projects in the communications function, aligning closely with stakeholder relations. This involves collaborating with senior management, people leaders and subject matter experts to advise on accurate and relevant communication content and strategies and managing the critical path timelines to ensure project timelines remain on track. Will manage end-to-end communications which will include content development, collateral planning, event planning, presentation and speaking remarks, intranet content strategy and other relevant channels.

3. Act as lead outreach and/or liaison with internal and external stakeholders. Includes vendor management, sign-off authority, and ensuring delivery of targeted results on time and on budget. This includes engaging with senior staff to proactively identify and monitor the adverse effects in communication strategies and making strategic recommendations to resolve these issues.

4. Responsible for the development and execution of major communication plans within the department with little advice or instruction apart from work objective interpretations and practices. Problems will be identified promptly with recommended solutions, and regular status updates and resolution to direct manager. Only highly important and unusual problems are expected to be referred to direct manager for advice, instruction, or direction.

5. Develop and manage internal and external communications plans including editorial planning, content development, writing, editing, liaison with external suppliers, and recommend distribution strategies. Research, write, edit and produce communication materials for multiple projects and varied audiences including newsletters, Annual Report, website, corporate presentations and speeches.

6. Develop and schedule media planning and associated activities.

7. Manage and respond to proactive and reactive media calls; develop key messages; and identify an appropriate media spokesperson; draft spokesperson briefs, press releases, media statements, Q&A as need and prep spokespeople.

8. Work with third-party suppliers to develop creative materials to enhance communication campaigns and initiatives.

9. Review communication initiatives and make recommendations to enhance communication and campaign effectiveness.

10. Provide comprehensive support as needed to issue management response processes. This includes drafting and reviewing content and key messages for crisis management responses and advising senior staff on how to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

11. Marketing and public relations activity support including assistance with materials development, spot media buying, campaign reports, media monitoring, tracking and reporting, proactive media outreach, social media, creating and maintaining current media reference materials.

12. Respond to department requests for communication support on initiatives such as Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility.

13. Keep abreast of current and potential developments associated with ESA stakeholder engagement and communications strategy and initiatives.

14. Develop and oversee initiatives related to ESA’s Social Media Strategy. Identify trends and monitor activity on social media to identify opportunities to promote ESA’s brand and safety priorities. Evaluate activity on social media to identify potential issues that can impact ESA’s Social Media Strategy and provide solutions to mitigate risks.

15. Create social media content in response to ongoing conversations in the marketplace to create greater engagement and profile for the ESA brand.

16. Oversee website management with respect to ongoing content development/revisions on the corporate website and work with other business units to ensure revisions are executed on schedule. Provide recommendations and draft content for the ESA website.

17. Lead coordination of awards program and participate in the preparation for the Annual General Meeting. Develop content and participate in presentations, group meetings and other corporate events.

18. Plan for participation in major trade shows. Work with departments to define show themes, oversee preparation of materials, execute, and provide rationale on effectiveness and return on investment.

19. Collect, analyze and report communications performance metrics.

20. Perform other duties as required.

Education:

Requires a strong knowledge of stakeholder engagement and communication and marketingtheories and their applicability to the business setting. Requires communication knowledge with emphasis particular to the nuances of stakeholder relations as well as the technical focus of the organization. Requires knowledge related to public relations, media relations, external communications, internal communications, marketing, and digital and social media to support the initiatives of the department. Requires excellent written, verbal and listening skills to influence stakeholders and media. This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of a 4-year University education or the equivalent level of education..

Experience:

Requires a strong background of communications experience with particular emphasis in the field of public communications. Requires project management, multi-tasking and negotiating skills to provide effective consultation and support to ESA’sbusiness and strategic plan. Requires experience to understand relevant issues related to electrical safety, policy development, stakeholder relations, public administration, and issues management. Requires experience in at a senior communications or public affairs level. Requires demonstrated listening and negotiating skills to support ESA’s business planand to develop consensus among diverse stakeholders and the public on regulatory initiatives and the ability to work effectively with people inside and outside the organization to achieve the required results. Requires demonstrated experience motivating professional staff. Requires strong writing skills. 4 50 A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
