Responsibilities
The Lawyer, General Counsel Office supports the General Counsel in all aspects of risk management and the Firm's compliance policies and procedures. The incumbent will research risk management and ethics questions, answer queries from Firm members, draft and update Firm policies, and review contracts from Firm members.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the General Counsel in duties related to compliance, ethics and regulatory issues.
- Support the General Counsel in updating risk-related policies.
- Provide legal advice to the management and leadership of the Firm (along with the General Counsel).
- Provide professional development training on risk management.
- Review and provide comments on Firm's contracts with vendors.
- Perform legal research and prepare memoranda relating to professional responsibility and risk management.
- Answer ethics and risk management questions from Firm members.
Special Projects
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Licensed LLB / JD and in good standing.
- 5+ years relevant experience in a Risk Management role at a large law firm or in-house or equivalent.
- Bilingualism in English and French.
- Excellent analytical and research skills and ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently with a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality and professionalism.
- Substantive working knowledge of the Rules of Professional Conduct.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in computer skills.
- Working understanding of large law firm processes and procedures, as well as general familiarity with the various practice areas of the firm.
- Effective time management and the ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with legal research and writing.
- Familiarity with business organizational/governance/ownership models, structures, and interrelationships.
