for a well‑established, midsize, full‑service law firm client in Whitby.
Job Type: Permanent Full‑Time. Compensation: Salary negotiable according to seniority, plus comprehensive benefits. Work Location: Hybrid – combination of remote‑based and onsite at the client’s Whitby office. Responsibilities SummaryHandle a broad range of commercial and general civil litigation matters, and grow your practice in a supportive and entrepreneurial environment.
Handle files from inception to resolution, including drafting pleadings, conducting discoveries, preparing motions, representing clients at mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings.
Provide strategic legal advice to clients and develop litigation strategies tailored to client objectives. Provide strategic legal advice and risk assessments to clients in a variety of industries.
Draft pleadings, legal memoranda, and settlement documentation.
Attend court appearances at various levels, including the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and other tribunals.
Leverage and expand existing book of business with support from the firm’s marketing, administrative, and legal teams.
Maintain and grow client relationships, contributing to the development of the firm’s litigation practice.
Collaborate with other lawyers and support staff to provide excellent service and outcomes for clients.
Additional legal representation, advisory and business development related responsibilities as required.
QualificationsEducation:
LL.B. or J.D. degree from a recognized law school.
Professional Credentials:
Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
Preferred Work Experience:
Approximately 4+ years of experience from a commercial litigation practice in Ontario.
Preferred Sector Experience:
Law firm experience required.
Technical and Language Skills Requirements
Proficiency with legal case management, legal billings, legal research, and legal documents management applications.
Proficiency with MS Office applications.
Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to speak a second language an asset.
Task‑Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes
Demonstrated ability to manage files independently and handle court appearances with confidence.
Proven experience handling a variety of complex commercial disputes.
Entrepreneurial mindset and business development orientation.
A partial book of business is required, with the opportunity to scale your practice within the firm.
Additional Requirements
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
Ability to declare personal Non‑Conflict of Interest in execution of position responsibilities.
Satisfactory Background Checks and Employment References.
