Quality Assurance Assistant

Job Responsibility:

Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Assurance Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on member of the production team(s) with the goal of delivering continuous improvement in quality of products by applying best practices and developing tools and processes to ensure quality goals are met. The incumbent will focus as well on labeling and nutritional information on the products produced by Prairie Meats LP. This position requires the incumbent to possess the ability to analyze data effectively and understand nutritional information requirements for labels.

Responsibilities

• Accountability: Labelling and Nutritional Information (50% of time)

· Review and verify product labels to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (eg. CFIA, or other relevant authorities).

· Ensure accuracy and consistency of ingredient lists, allergen statements, and nutritional information on all packaging.

· Create and amend labels for packaging as required

· Collaborate with R&D, production, and marketing teams to validate product formulations and label claims.

· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of food labeling regulations and industry best practices.

· Assist in the preparation and submission of labeling documentation for regulatory approvals.

· Conduct internal audits to ensure all labels and packaging meet quality and legal standards.

· Monitor changes in labeling regulations and update product information accordingly.

Accountability: Quality (Continuous Improvement) (30% of time)

· Hands-on approach to production processes by working with the areas of production

· Conduct pre-op inspections

· Conduct environmental swabbing

· Communication with Supervisors and employees to champion GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices)

· Conduct daily monitoring and verification of food safety processes (i.e. thermometer checks, scale checks, etc.)

· Ensure all products are properly labelled

· Assess quality through random sampling of products

· Maintain documents related to food safety

· Review and update policies and standard operating procedures as they relate to food safety

· Develop strategies to increase efficiency, maintain quality and ensure continuous improvement of production and sanitation processes and procedures

· Self guided/ continuous learning of quality assurance (QA) best practices

· Conduct periodic random checks on best before dates on products to ensure guidelines are being followed

· Actively participate in HACCP team

Accountability: Training (10% of time)

· Work with Production Manager(s) and Quality Assurance Coordinator to ensure all team members are trained on food safety

· Conduct toolbox talks regarding food safety on a consistent basis

· Ensure all team members are aware of standard operating procedures and that they are available for team members to refer to

Accountability: Food Safety Concerns and Recalls (10% of time)

· Be actively involved with product recalls that occur both internal and external

· Investigate all food safety concerns

· Champion any lessons learned

Experience

• Previous experience in a quality assurance or quality control role is preferred
• Familiarity with QA/QC processes and methodologies is a plus.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data effectively.
• Proficiency in using measuring tools and pre-ops inspections
• Knowledge of nutritional labelling requirements is required
• Knowledge of various types of meat products
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.
