Hansard Manager

The Parliamentary Publications branch of the Legislative Assembly Service (LAS) produces verbatim records and indexes of debates held in the Legislative Assembly and its committees. These official records, known as Hansard, are published in English, as well as French when spoken.
Reporting to the Director of Parliamentary Publications, the Hansard Manager is responsible for the timely, accurate, and cost-effective production of Hansard publications. The position provides operational leadership by planning, managing, and coordinating Hansard production while ensuring the highest standards of editorial quality, accuracy, and integrity. Responsibilities include leading and supervising staff, overseeing recruitment, training, performance management, workforce planning, budgeting, resource allocation, records management, and operational projects. The Hansard Manager also establishes publication policies and quality standards, directs production, editing, and research activities, and leads innovation initiatives by implementing emerging technologies and automated solutions to improve publishing efficiency and user experience.
The position requires expertise in transcription and editing, proficiency with transcription technologies, and strong leadership, financial, project, process improvement, and change management skills. Knowledge is typically acquired through a relevant university degree supplemented by significant experience in parliamentary procedures, legislative publishing, transcription technologies, and the rules and procedures of the Legislative Assembly.
