Assistant Director

This is a projected 18 month temporary position, covering for a parental leave. The target start date is the beginning of August.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Assistant Director has primary responsibility for the development and coordination of region-wide programs, services, and promotions. They support rural staff in Palliser Regional Librarys 19 rural branches and are responsible for rural staff training, professional development, and evaluation.

The Assistant Director works closely with the Executive Director and serves as a member of the Palliser Management Team. This position requires some regular travel around the region and may involve working occasional evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative Support - policies, strategic planning, operational procedures, budgets, grant administration
Staff Training - emphasis on program development & evaluation, community engagement, and digital services; takes lead on organizing annual branch staff workshop
Programs and Outreach - takes lead on region-wide programming, community partnerships, promotion, outreach activities, website, social media
Collection Development and Management - manages ARPs with vendors, some selection, assists branch staff in weeding, etc.
Staff Leadership - supports and evaluates rural branch staff, providing coaching, mentorship, performance evaluation, and professional development.

Qualifications:
-A degree in Library and Information Science, or another related field
-Must have a driver's license and be prepared to travel on occasion
-Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
-Experience and demonstrated ability in: initiative, goal-setting, time management, communication
