We're looking for an organized and energetic Mortgage Underwriter with in-depth underwriting knowledge, and a keen eye for detail. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, skilled at maintaining client and lender relationships, solving complex loan scenarios, and thriving in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

In this role, you will take a lead position in ensuring a smooth and efficient mortgage application process. Responsibilities include reviewing and assessing loan applications, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines, and assisting our Mortgage Brokers in delivering an exceptional client experience.

Key Responsibilities (not an exhaustive list) :

• Efficiently track and manage active mortgage applications and incoming leads
• Process 5+ mortgage applications daily, reviewing documentation and coordinating with clients, brokers, and referral partners to gather required information for submission
• Ensure all financing conditions are fulfilled by communicating outstanding items to lenders, clients, and brokers, and meeting deadlines
• Deliver exceptional customer service to all stakeholders involved in each mortgage transaction
• Respond to emails and inquiries promptly and professionally
• Collaborate with the Wise Equity team to ensure all files are compliant and properly archived
• Maintain and update the CRM system to support the mortgage brokers on the Wise Equity team

Qualifications & Attributes :

• Minimum of 3 years of experience underwriting residential AAA mortgages
• Licensed mortgage professionals preferred; however, obtaining a license within 1 month of the start date is required (licensing fees are the responsibility of the underwriter)
• Preference given to candidates with experience in Alt-A and Alt-B lending
• Strong knowledge of the residential mortgage market and lender guidelines, with a proven ability to make sound, compliant decisions
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to navigate complex situations with professionalism and respect
• Highly organized, with strong time management and multitasking abilities
• Proficient with tools including Go High Level CRM, Google Workspace, lender portals, Finmo, Slack, and Trello

Your Performance Will Be Measured On:

• Number of Broker Complete Transactions per year
• Referral Partner and Peer Survey Results

• You have no experience underwriting in the Canadian Residential market.
• You have no intention of obtaining a mortgage license in the next 12 months.
• You have a hard time working in team environments
• You are not prepared to work 40 hours or more (if needed) per week.
• You are unable to come to our office in Scarborough, ON (M1H 3E3) for team meetings and occasional in office work days
• You are not familiar with the Google Suite, Lender Portals and communication applications.
