Medical Lab Technologist (OPSEU LAB), Special Hematology (Flow Cytometry)

Our Medical Lab Technologists provide accurate and timely interpretive and diagnostic specimen testing and reporting. Through accuracy, quality, efficiency and expediting test results, you will contribute to patient well-being and the achievement of better health outcomes. LifeLabs facilities are also known as teaching laboratories and offer opportunities to share knowledge in a team‑oriented environment. You will have 24‑hour medical support through our Medical Science team and Medical Library, and the ability to teach our college and university student placements.

This vacancy is for an existing position.

Status: Part Time (0‑20 hours per week). Shift: Evening Shift (3:00 PM–11:00 PM). Discipline: Special Hematology – Flow Cytometry. Start Date: ASAP. Union: OPSEU LAB collective agreement.

Responsibilities

• Conduct a wide range of diagnostic and interpretive specimen testing.
• Prepare and process samples, ensuring accurate labeling and documentation.
• Perform, interpret and release results while ensuring patient confidentiality.
• Identify incidents and non‑conformities, participate in the development of effective corrective action plans, and drive continuous improvement.
• Assist with the evaluation and implementation of new technology.
• Participate in problem solving in work organization and workflow.
• Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and quality assurance standards.

Qualifications

• College diploma or university degree in Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent education and/or experience.
• Registered with CMLTO and in good standing.
• Excellent communication skills to enable you to relate with a wide variety of people.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced team environment while adhering to LifeLabs standards of safety, accuracy and efficiency.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail demonstrating curiosity.
• Ability to distinguish multiple colors.
• Strong computer skills in MS Office products, as well as laboratory analyzers.
• Problem solving skills, including the ability to identify and follow up on issues.
• Ability to maintain strictest standards of safety, patient privacy and confidentiality.
