ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Manager - Nanaandawe'ewin (Traditional Healing Program), the Cultural Practitioner is responsible for delivering culturally competent, safe, people-centered care within the Cultural Outreach Program.

In this role they will offer traditional healing support to clients within the Cultural Outreach Team including cultural and clinical health-related services across St. Joseph's Care Group and collaborating with community partners. This care supports individuals facing complex challenges such as mental health, homelessness, and addiction. Key responsibilities include incorporating Indigenous knowledge ceremonies and cultural practices to provide holistic care that is both culturally safe and tailored to the needs of the individuals served.

HIRING DEADLINE:  July 20, 2026

WHAT YOU BRING

Education/Experience:

  • Traditional knowledge acquired through direct experience with Elders and Traditional Healers
  • Diploma in social services Indigenous studies or a related field

Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Indigenous ceremonies and traditional healing practices
  • Knowledge of Indigenous history culture and worldview
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to speak Ojibwe or Oji-Cree is preferred
  • Understand the importance of trauma informed practice through a cultural lens
  • Ability to deliver presentations to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to establish effective and collaborative working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including community partners within the Indigenous community
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Appreciation and respect of others cultural teachings and understanding and working within a multi-faith setting
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an interprofessional team environment
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency including skills with MS Office applications
  • Competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Demonstrated regular attendance at work

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)  where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
