Project Manager – Electrical Construction

 

Location: Richmond Hill / Greater Toronto Area, ON

Salary: $120,000 - $180,000

 

An established electrical and MEP contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee electrical construction projects throughout the Greater Toronto Area and across Ontario.

 

The successful candidate will take ownership of projects from pre-construction and contract review through execution, closeout, and warranty, with responsibility for financial performance, field coordination, documentation, client relationships, and overall project delivery.

 

Must Haves

 

• 5+ years of Project Management experience with an electrical contractor or MEP contractor.


• Proven experience managing commercial, institutional, industrial, or large-scale multi-residential electrical construction projects.


• Strong knowledge of electrical construction, including drawings, specifications, contracts, RFIs, submittals, change orders, schedules, and project closeout.


• Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, cost forecasting, labour, procurement, subcontractors, and overall project profitability.


• Strong knowledge of Ontario electrical/building codes and the ability to travel to project sites throughout the GTA and Ontario as required.

 

Nice to Haves

• Journeyperson Electrician, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or other relevant technical background.


• Experience with Design-Assist, Design-Build, or complex integrated MEP projects.


• Experience using Accubid or similar electrical estimating software.


• Experience coordinating related systems such as controls, fire alarm, communications, security, or structured cabling.

 

Responsibilities

• Manage electrical construction projects from project award through planning, execution, commissioning, closeout, and warranty.


• Take ownership of project financial performance, including budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, billing, change management, and overall profitability.


• Review project contracts, specifications, drawings, estimates, schedules, and scopes of work to identify contractual requirements, risks, and opportunities.


• Coordinate project startup activities and ensure appropriate field manpower, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and resources are available when required.


• Work closely with superintendents, forepersons, field teams, and senior management to establish project priorities and maintain efficient site execution.


• Maintain regular communication with clients, general contractors, consultants, designers, architects, property managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.


• Represent the contractor during project meetings and provide clear updates regarding schedule, cost, design coordination, procurement, safety, quality, and outstanding issues.


• Manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, meeting minutes, drawing revisions, change notices, deficiency lists, and document-control logs.


• Identify scope changes, prepare pricing, submit change-order proposals, negotiate changes, and maintain accurate change-order tracking throughout the project.


• Prepare and issue subcontract agreements and ensure subcontractors meet contractual, documentation, scheduling, quality, and safety requirements.


• Monitor subcontractor and other trade activities to identify potential impacts to electrical installation, schedule, access, sequencing, or productivity.


• Work with procurement teams and suppliers to ensure long-lead electrical equipment and materials are identified, ordered, tracked, and delivered in accordance with the project schedule.


• Review project progress against schedule and proactively address delays, coordination challenges, labour constraints, material issues, and other project risks.


• Provide technical and operational support to field personnel and assist with resolving construction, design, coordination, and installation challenges.


• Maintain accurate project cost information and regularly review labour productivity, committed costs, remaining costs, forecasts, and projected margins.


• Ensure contractual submittals, project reports, closeout documentation, commissioning records, and turnover packages are accurate and submitted within required timelines.


• Coordinate the preparation and delivery of operations and maintenance manuals, as-built documentation, warranties, and other project closeout requirements.


• Maintain warranty and deficiency logs and coordinate the timely resolution of outstanding items following substantial completion.


• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure projects are executed in accordance with company policies, legislative requirements, and established health and safety standards.


• Build and maintain strong long-term relationships with clients and project partners while identifying opportunities for repeat business and future work.
