Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Articling Student role based in Toronto, ON. The Articling Student will assist lawyers with legal research, drafting memoranda, pleadings, affidavits, motion records, correspondence, and other legal documents. The primary focus at our office is Criminal Defence, Immigration, Family, and Civil Litigation.

Daily responsibilities include reviewing and organizing files, analyzing evidence, summarizing documents, and preparing materials for client meetings, negotiations, and court appearances. The role involves attending client meetings and court (as appropriate), taking detailed notes, and following up on action items. The Articling Student will also communicate with clients and other parties under lawyer supervision, manage deadlines, support file management and scheduling, and contribute to maintaining organized, accurate, and confidential records.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recent completion of an accredited JD/LLB program and eligible to article in Ontario.
• Strong legal research and writing skills, with the ability to analyze case law, legislation, and legal commentary and present findings clearly.
• Experience drafting legal documents such as memoranda, correspondence, and basic court materials, with close attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple files, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact respectfully with clients, colleagues, and external parties.
• Proficiency with standard office and legal tools (e.g., MS Office, PDF software, legal research platforms such as CanLII or Westlaw/Lexis).
• Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality and ethical practice.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, respond to feedback, and take initiative in a supervised setting.
• Interest in developing practical litigation and/or solicitor skills; prior legal clinic, internship, or related experience is an asset.
• Additional language skills relevant to the firm’s client base are considered an advantage.
