Radio-Canada Ottawa-Gatineau is looking for a sporting life videojournalist. This is a permanent, full-time role working three (3) days on a weekday schedule and two (2) days on a weekend schedule.

Your Role

Reporting to the Senior Digital Producer, Sports, you’ll gather and process news from the local and national sports scene. You’ll be expected to create content for all Radio-Canada platforms. You’ll be responsible for writing copy and producing video for digital platforms as well as contributing to Le Téléjournal Ottawa-Gatineau, live or pre-recorded radio newscasts and programs. You may also be required to work on national programs.

The greater Ottawa-Gatineau area is home to a large number of Canada’s national and multi-sport organizations and professional, college and university sports teams. It offers an extensive range of possibilities for stories about the region’s sporting life, leisure and outdoor activities. This is a unique opportunity to create content that is informative and interesting for our audiences and relevant to their lives.

Do you like to propose original stories while staying up to date on what’s happening every day? Then this position is for you!

You must be able to work independently, have excellent organizational skills, be highly creative and possess sound editorial judgment. You’ll prepare, align, set up and operate various cameras and ancillary equipment, ensuring optimal audio and video quality under prevailing conditions. Work is governed by CBC/Radio-Canada programming policies and Journalistic Standards and Practices. When needed, you may be asked to lend a hand in the newsroom as a general news videojournalist.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.

What You Bring

• Graduation from university or community college in a relevant course of study.
• Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant journalism experience.
• Solid reporting skills.
• Proven skills shooting and editing video to tell compelling stories.
• Comfortable and dynamic on-air presence.
• Excellent interviewing skills.
• Ability to write clearly and concisely.
• Flexibility to work regularly for television, radio and/or digital platforms.
• Creative problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of the latest sporting events as well as sports-related community and socio-economic issues.
• Demonstrated understanding of the key issues facing Ontario, Eastern Ontario and the Ottawa/Gatineau region.
• Demonstrated range of visual storytelling techniques and digital best practices.
• Strong knowledge of social media and digital platforms in general.
• Critical acumen.
• Proven ability to generate original story ideas and knowledgeable contacts.
• Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
• Proven conversational writing style.
• Ability to respond to breaking news situations quickly and accurately.
• Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
• Ability to work flexible hours in a high-pressure, tight-deadline environment, often in unexpected overtime situations.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Solid command of French and good knowledge of English (asset).
• Valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada’s insurer.
• Valid passport and ability to travel as needed.
• Knowledge of camera models Sony PXW x200, Sony RX10 and Sony A7R iv is an asset.
• Knowledge of Avid Media Composer, Photoshop and Lightroom is an asset.
