About the opportunity

As Risk Underwriter, you will analyze potential borrowers' creditworthiness and make lending decisions to help small businesses grow.

Responsibilities

The Risk Underwriter will:

• Work with a queue of incoming Business Loans, Flex Funds & Line of Credit applications to analyze credit quality.
• Present recommendations to Senior Underwriters and make lending decisions within designated authority levels.
• Validate the details of small businesses using online tools and other reports.
• Analyze and validate applicant information and evaluate fraud risk.
• Communicate with our Sales department to ensure required additional documents meet lending guidelines.
• Attach underwriting documents to the Salesforce application processing system, when required.

What you're bringing to the table

Alongside unwavering ethical principles, you showcase:

• 1-2 years of work experience in commercial loan underwriting, preferably gained while working in the underwriting department of a Canadian bank or alternative lender.
• A bachelor's degree in commerce, economics, finance or another related discipline (an asset).
• The ability to interpret financial information in the context of assessing small business credit quality (including review of financial statements, bank statements, credit reports and information obtained from other data sources).
• Strong communication skills in French and English and an ability to act as the outward face of the credit department.
• The ability to learn and help others while working in a team environment, as well as work independently.
• Strong analytical skills with commercial awareness and a practical approach.
• The ability to plan and organize workload to ensure consistent achievement of goals and targets.
• Enthusiasm for a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
