Reporting to the Superintendent of Leadership and Parent Engagement, the Research

Officer is responsible for the overall coordination, implementation, monitoring, and

reporting of Ministry and District research and evaluation initiatives aimed at improving

educational practices and outcomes. The Research Officer works collaboratively with

Board departments, Leadership, System and School Principals, and coordinators on both

small and large scale research initiatives, a crucial role for providing evidence-based

strategic input to the school board.

Job Description

• Conduct research and analysis for school board planning, strategic directions, provincial accountability, and program evaluations (e.g., mental health, equity).
• Build relationships with external organizations, represent the board on external committees, and contribute to community work plans.
• Oversee and guide the work of the Research Assistant.
• Deliver training on understanding and using data for informed educational decisions.
• Stay up to date on psychology, educational research, ministerial policies, mental health, equity, privacy, and ethics.
• Protect the boards integrity through research advice, ethical practices, and chairing the committee that reviews external research requests.
• Develop qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method research designs, and use software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python, Qualtrics) to manage and analyze data.
• Manage large datasets while adhering to strict data quality standards, ethical rules, and privacy laws.
• Clearly present research findings and data trends to executive committees, trustees, and diverse audiences.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in experimental social sciences or a related experimental human research field (preferred focus in child/adolescent development, K-12 education, etc.).
• At least 1.5 years of relevant experience in psychological/educational research, methodology, evaluation, data management, and working with large datasets.
• Proficiency in SPSS, R, Qualtrics, Microsoft Power BI, Google platforms, Microsoft Office, and data visualization software.
• Experience handling sensitive/confidential data with discretion, expert presentation skills, commitment to human rights/equity, change management skills, and familiarity with ethics committees and policy standards.
• Valid Ontario drivers license, reliable access to a vehicle, and a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
• Periodic travel to schools and occasional evening work for trustee presentations.

Duration: The start date will be as soon as the recruitment process is complete and is anticipated to end October 1, 2026 with the possibility of extension.

This is a full-time temporary position with a salary based on an annual full time salary of $97,302 to $123,972 to be prorated to reflect the length of the term.
