Automotive Tool Designer

Job Responsibility:

SHIFT: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (MONDAY - FRIDAY) (In person role)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY

Tooling

• Design new stamping dies, robotic and manual weld fixtures, assembly fixtures, work stations and any other tooling required for production needs.
• Design modification to existing tooling for continuous improvements projects
• Create BOMs and detailed drawings for all new designs
• Work with the tool room and outside vendors to answer any questions/concerns with new tooling designs
• Review and approve all externally designed tools

Other Engineering Activities

• Responsible for communicating part and drawing changes to DBG
• Complete special design projects as assigned.
• Maintain and encourage a safe work environment and good housekeeping in the Engineering Department.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures
• Adhere to IATF and TS procedures
• Promote and work as a team member in all situations.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED

• Stamping Die Design ( 3+ years of Experience0
• Robotic Weld Fixture Design (2+ years of experience)
• Projection/Spot Weld Fixture Design (2+ years of experience)
• Assembly Fixture Design (3+ years of experience)
• Understanding of different material types, their applications, and cost
• Understanding of different fabrication techniques and where they can be applied
• Experience quoting tools would be considered an added asset
• Proficient in SolidWorks and AutoCAD (NX is a bonus)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

EDUCATION REQUIRED

• Proficient with tooling design as stated in “General Responsibilities”
• Bachelor or Master's in Mechanical Engineering is preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• 8 years' experience in mechanical design
• Previous experience designing metal stamping dies
• Experience working in a automotive manufacturing environment

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS

• Must be able to communicate with shop floor
• Must be willing to work “hand's on” with the tool room and engineering team
