The Role

Medical Secretary to provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to Consultant medical staff and their teams. All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Full-time, Permanent
  • You will be based at The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
  • Working Monday to Friday

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to Consultants and clinical teams
  • Manage diaries, appointments, admissions and follow-up arrangements to support efficient patient pathways
  • Deal professionally with enquiries from patients, relatives, carers and healthcare professionals
  • Prepare correspondence, clinic letters, medical reports and other documentation with a high degree of accuracy
  • Manage waiting lists and clinic outcomes to support service performance and waiting time targets
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to ensure patient information is accurate and up to date
  • Support service improvement, cross-cover arrangements and the training and mentoring of administrative colleagues

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • HNC or SVQ Level III in Secretarial Studies, Business Administration or equivalent experience
  • Advanced keyboard skills with excellent accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and a range of electronic systems
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands and work independently
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal sensitively with confidential information
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team whilst using initiative and sound judgement in a busy environment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and previous healthcare administration experience would be advantageous
