The Tŝilhqot’in National Government is based in Williams Lake, British Columbia serving six communities, including ʔEsdilagh, Tl'etinqox, Tl'esqox, Tŝideldel, Xeni Gwet'in, and Yuneŝit'in. The Tŝilhqot’in National Government’s mission is to support and empower Tŝilhqot’in peoples to exercise their rights to self-determination within their traditional territories in ways which reflect Tŝilhqot’in philosophy, values, experience and culture.
The Dasiqox Pathways Team Facilitator will be responsible for supporting, coordinating, and documenting a complex inter-governmental process, led by the Tŝilhqot’in Nation and communities, and working with Tŝilhqot’in leadership (Chiefs, Councillors and knowledge holders), as well as a team of negotiators, staff and contractors, and external advisors and provincial government employees. Grounded in respect for and service to Tŝilhqot’in tu (water), nenqay (lands and resources) and the vision and principles of Dasiqox Nexwagwezʔan , this position reports to the Director of Negotiations while working collaboratively with the communities (Leadership and staff) of Xeni Gwet’in, Yuneŝitin, and the Dasiqox Pathways Planning Team.
The position requires excellence in team coordination and communications, as well as proven experience facilitating Indigenous-led planning and decision-making processes. The position also requires strengths in organizational and project management skills (tracking budgets and deliverables, coordinating specialized contractors), and sensitivity and skill working in cross-cultural situations, including conflict resolution. The position requires a highly responsive, self-motivated, organized and detail-oriented person with excellent interpersonal skills and an aptitude for collaborative work.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and coordinate a joint land use planning process
- Collaborate, align, and coordinate work with Dasiqox Nexwagwezʔan Program Manager and core team members (staff and contractors)
- Track and report on project budget and associated contracts, deliverables
- Convene the Planning Team, Leadership and other relevant members as necessary for regular meetings and deliverables
- Plan agendas, facilitate team meetings and engagement with leadership, advisory, and community groups
- Coordinate and align the “land use and stewardship plan” with other parallel and relevant initiatives of Tŝilhqot’in, including nen planning, nexwenen (Category A) negotiations, and forest landscape planning by working closely with other TNG staff
- Track process and communications by keeping and circulating meeting minutes, records and managing information
- Coordinate and align advisors and specialists with Dasiqox Team, planning process
- Navigate and resolve complex relationships that include conflicting views, personalities, and governance systems
- Respectfully engage and strengthen relationships with a variety of individuals and organizations across scales and geographies
- Support a joint (inter-governmental) planning process while prioritizing Tŝilhqot’in values, goals, objectives, and wellbeing
- Facilitate third-party and public engagement in an open and inclusive manner while respecting the aspects of the process that must remain confidential to the Tŝilhqot’in
- Engage in ongoing learning about Dasiqox Nexwagwezʔan, IPCAs, and integrate that learning into the work
- Apply strong conflict resolution skills to create outcomes and solutions that align with the Tŝilhqot’in values and which advance the Tŝilhqot’in vision for Dasiqox Nexwagwezʔan
Requirements
- Degree or certification in planning, office/organizational management, facilitation, political science or conflict resolution plus 5+ years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
- Facilitation training, skills, and experience including setting meeting agendas, facilitating group and Indigenous-led processes, keeping meeting minutes
- Strategic thinker and “doer” with ability to develop and implement strategies and plans based on input from Tŝilhqot’in leadership and community members
- Excellent communication skills including effective communications with individuals and groups, public speaking, professional writing and report preparation, and clear responsive email and phone communications
- Proven record of successful working relationships with Indigenous communities, initiatives, and First Nations
- Excellent research, analysis and problem-solving skills
- Technical aptitude including complete working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as video conferencing software
- Proven record of successfully leading and supporting Indigenous planning processes
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Able to maintain confidentiality
- Valid BC Driver’s License, ability and willingness to travel to remote communities and travel to meetings outside of the region as required
- Flexible work schedule to partake in evening engagement sessions and Nation/community events

Working Conditions
- Regular travel to remote communities will be required
- Occasional travel to urban/city environments
- Attending and engaging in presentations and ceremonies, public events
- Desk work using computers, writing, engaging in video and phone calls
- Outdoor work on the land – site visits and assessments, interviews, cultural events, ceremonies
- Overtime as required – early mornings, evenings, and weekends at times
- Limited physical work – e.g. loading vehicles, hiking to field sites, lifting equipment up to ~40 lbs
