Yorkville University

Who we are

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe education is more than the pursuit of knowledge – it is a catalyst for transformation. Our mission, grounded in democratizing education, is to create access for learners from every background and empower them to achieve their aspirations and advance their careers.

We are committed to delivering rigorous, flexible programs that are both personally fulfilling and professionally rewarding, while contributing to the betterment of society. Since 2004, Yorkville has been among Canada’s few private, for-profit, fully accredited degree-granting universities, with campuses in Ontario, British Columbia, and New Brunswick. Together with Toronto Film School, we offer creative and academic pathways at both the college and university levels, cultivating a multidisciplinary environment where innovation and the arts converge.

Our community is vibrant and diverse. Many of our learners are adults balancing education with careers and personal commitments. Every member of our team – whether in teaching, operations, or technology – is dedicated to removing barriers and expanding access. Together, we deliver flexible, industry-informed learning that leads to meaningful opportunities.

At our core is human connection – guiding people to reimagine their futures in a community defined by opportunity, creativity, and growth.

Who we need

Reporting to the Associate Registrar, Appeals, we are hiring an Appeals Officer to oversee the administration of academic appeals and academic conduct matters for our New Brunswick campus. In this role, you will support students through the appeals process with professionalism, discretion, and empathy while ensuring the University’s academic policies and standards are upheld.

You will gather and review case information, prepare documentation for Program-level and Standing Committee reviews, and ensure decisions are accurately recorded and implemented within institutional systems. Working closely with academic leaders and administrative teams, you will coordinate cases from submission through resolution, maintaining clear communication, thorough documentation, and efficient case progression. Your work will help ensure students receive fair and transparent outcomes while safeguarding the integrity of the University’s academic policies.

This is an existing full-time role working in a hybrid environment, with two days remote and three days on-site, including Wednesdays.

What’s in it for you?

Impact on student experience. You will play a meaningful role in supporting students during challenging moments in their academic journey. By helping students understand the appeals process, documentation requirements, and potential outcomes, you will ensure they receive fair consideration and clear guidance during a high-stakes period in their studies.

Influence on academic integrity. Appeals and academic conduct decisions require careful interpretation of policy, strong documentation practices, and sound judgment. Your work will help ensure policies are applied consistently and that decisions are supported by clear evidence, protecting both student rights and the integrity of the University’s academic standards.

Cross-functional exposure. This role sits at the intersection of multiple teams. You will collaborate with academic leadership, instructors, registrarial teams, student services, accessibility partners, and the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities to coordinate cases and support fair outcomes.

Professional development. No two cases are the same. This role offers the opportunity to build specialized expertise in policy interpretation, complex case management, and student support while gaining exposure to how different academic and administrative teams work together across the University.

As our new Appeals Officer, you will:

  • Manage end-to-end case coordination. You will intake, triage, investigate, and review academic appeals and conduct cases. You will gather and review evidence, including Brightspace gradebooks, Turnitin reports, transcripts, and supporting documentation. You will prepare case summaries and committee materials, issue decision communications, and implement outcomes within institutional systems.
  • Support students through the appeals process. You will communicate with students throughout the appeal process, explaining appeal grounds, timelines, documentation requirements, and potential outcomes in clear, accessible language. You may meet with students by phone or video to help them understand the process and next steps when situations are complex or sensitive.
  • Maintain documentation and case tracking. You will maintain case records, documentation, and communications using case management tools and shared systems. You will prepare committee agendas, assemble case files, track case progress, and maintain documentation archives to support reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally. You will work closely with Deans, Program Chairs, instructors, practicum teams, student services, accessibility and accommodations, and registrarial teams to coordinate case reviews and ensure outcomes are implemented accurately across departments.
  • Build your policy knowledge. You will develop a strong understanding of institutional academic policies, Academic Calendar requirements, and Ministry-mandated conditions governing admission, academic progress, and graduation.
  • Apply policies and support regulatory compliance. You will apply Academic Integrity and Honesty policies, Academic Calendar regulations, and program-specific academic rules consistently while ensuring processes respect student rights, procedural fairness, confidentiality, and documentation standards.

What you bring:

  • The education and sector experience. You have a Bachelor’s degree and experience working in a structured, policy-driven, or post-secondary environment. Experience in registrarial services, academic administration, student services, or case coordination would be an asset.
  • The technical and organizational skills. You are highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple cases at different stages simultaneously. You are comfortable learning and using systems such as case management tools, student information systems, learning management systems, and document tracking platforms.
  • The communication and interpersonal skills. You communicate clearly and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders. You are able to explain policies and processes in accessible language and approach sensitive situations with patience, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Judgement and documentation skills. You are able to review information carefully, document cases accurately, and apply policies consistently. You understand the importance of maintaining clear records and supporting decisions with appropriate documentation.
  • Professional resilience. You are comfortable working with sensitive or complex student situations and understand the importance of professionalism, confidentiality, and emotional awareness. Experience in student support, mental health environments, or crisis-response settings would be considered an asset.

Why work at Yorkville University?

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we are united by a shared purpose: placing the student experience at the heart of everything we do. Whether you are teaching, designing curriculum, advising learners, advancing technology, or supporting operations, your work directly fuels learning potential, strengthens inclusive communities, and fosters purposeful curiosity.

Here, professional growth is part of our culture. In your role, you will have opportunities to help the launch of career-relevant programs, expand your expertise, and access tuition-free courses across our institutions - from certificates to master’s degrees. Curiosity, initiative, and innovation are encouraged, and your ideas can move from vision to reality.

Our scale offers the best of both worlds: the reach and stability of a national institution combined with the agility of a mid-sized organization, where contributions are visible and valued. You will be part of a diverse and inclusive community where authenticity is celebrated, collaboration is expected, and impact is shared - on learners, colleagues, and your own professional journey.

At Yorkville and Toronto Film School, your work does more than make a difference. It empowers others to achieve their potential, while giving you the opportunity to realize yours.

Compensation philosophy

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe compensation should be fair, straightforward, and supportive of your growth. Our salary ranges reflect progression from learning in the role to excelling, with each offer based on skills, experience, and role complexity.

This position offers an annual salary ranging from $45,000, a midpoint of $46,500, and a maximum of $48,000. Established hires typically start near the midpoint, while the upper range is reserved for those with deep expertise and sustained contributions. Offers below the midpoint recognize strong potential with room to grow.

We strive for equitable, consistent pay, though rates may vary within the same role based on performance, specialized knowledge, and impact.

We welcome conversations about compensation throughout the hiring process.

  • An in-person interview with the Associate Registrar, Appeals and the Director, Student and Campus Experience. This is an in-depth discussion, exploring how your experience aligns with the needs of the team and the organization.
