Mechanical Discipline Lead

Introduction

We are looking for a permanent full‑time Mechanical Discipline Lead to join either our Saskatoon, Regina, or Calgary team! This position will report to the Director of Engineering. Indigenous applicants are encouraged to apply.

Position Overview

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and coach mechanical engineers, designers, and technologists.
• Set high standards for technical quality, safety, professionalism, and integrity.
• Build strong relationships with team members and support a positive work environment.
• Participate in performance management, providing constructive feedback and recognition.
• Work with team members to establish clear, measurable goals and support their progress.
• Identify training needs and coordinate technical and professional development.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of new mechanical engineering staff.
• Lead the technical onboarding process for new mechanical team members.
• Gather performance feedback from project managers, clients, and other discipline leads; for seconded staff, coordinate feedback from client‑side supervisors.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define mechanical engineering requirements and project objectives.
• Work with other disciplines leads and project managers to plan schedules and resource assignments.
• Lead or support the development of mechanical engineering deliverables, including:
  • Mechanical design criteria
  • Equipment specifications
  • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
  • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and mechanical drawings
  • Cost estimates
  • Construction work packages
  • Material handling, HVAC, piping, rotating equipment, bins, silos, and pressure system designs
• Attend project meetings to support the mechanical discipline and project managers.
• Engage with clients to understand requirements and provide project updates.
• Support the development and continuous improvement of mechanical engineering checklists, work processes, and quality standards in collaboration with the Manager, Quality and Business Performance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Eight (8) or more years of mechanical engineering leadership experience, including team building, conflict resolution, and performance management.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline; equivalent combinations of experience and certifications may be considered.
• Strong mentoring, coaching, and leadership skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to address mechanical engineering challenges.
• Advanced degrees (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering are an asset.
• Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation with APEGS or another Canadian regulator is an asset; A.Sc.T. will also be considered.
• Experience in industrial environments (brownfield and greenfield) is an asset.
• Experience in heavy industrial sectors (mining, energy, manufacturing, processing, etc.) is an asset.

Compensation: Commensurate with education and experience.
