Senior Software Engineer II, (AI Native)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer II, (AI Native) based in Canada.

As a Senior Software Engineer II, you will help build and evolve high-throughput backend systems powering a large-scale digital advertising platform.
You will own key projects across ad serving and real-time bidding, from architecture and design through deployment and operational support.
The role combines distributed systems engineering, low-latency performance, cloud technologies, and AI-native development practices.
You will work closely with product leaders, architects, and senior engineers to introduce new monetization capabilities and partner integrations.
Your work will directly contribute to systems processing billions of requests and events while maintaining reliability and scalability.
You will also mentor other engineers and help establish strong standards for engineering quality, observability, testing, and AI-assisted development.
This is a remote-first opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants significant technical ownership and meaningful leverage through modern AI tooling.

• Build, maintain, and continuously improve high-throughput, low-latency backend services , with a focus on reliability, scalability, performance, and operational health.
• Own projects and features end-to-end, including defining scope, designing technical solutions, implementing functionality, testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing optimization.
• Develop and enhance Real-Time Bidding (RTB) and auction capabilities while supporting integrations with demand-side and supply-side partners.
• Collaborate with Staff Engineers, architects, and technical stakeholders to implement platform architecture decisions and identify potential design or scalability gaps.
• Partner with Product teams to translate new advertising formats and monetization requirements into robust technical designs and scalable solutions.
• Contribute to monitoring, incident response, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis to strengthen platform reliability.
• Integrate AI into day-to-day engineering workflows, using AI coding assistants for analysis, development, refactoring, testing, documentation, and codebase navigation.
• Apply sound engineering judgment when reviewing AI-generated code and remain fully accountable for the quality, security, reliability, and maintainability of delivered solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team standards covering code quality, testing, documentation, and engineering practices.
• Share effective AI workflows and continuously evaluate emerging tools and approaches that can improve engineering velocity and reduce operational overhead.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline .
• 5–8 years of backend software engineering experience , with strong proficiency in Java and multi-threaded system design.
• Proven experience building or operating high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems in production environments.
• Strong understanding of data consistency, performance trade-offs, scalability, and database fundamentals.
• Experience working in cloud-native environments , ideally with AWS.
• Familiarity with AdTech concepts , including real-time bidding, auctions, and supply/demand integrations, is an advantage.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs or external partner systems is beneficial.
• Strong technical communication skills, with the ability to explain complex engineering decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects, make sound technical decisions, and deliver reliable solutions with limited oversight.
• Comfortable working with AI-assisted and agentic development workflows , including tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot.
• Willingness to use AI coding tools as a substantive part of daily engineering work, including coding, refactoring, testing, analysis, and documentation.
• Strong judgment and accountability when evaluating and reviewing AI-generated output.
• A collaborative mindset with an interest in mentoring colleagues, sharing knowledge, and continuously improving engineering practices.
