Senior Cloud Deployment Engineer

Job Responsibility: Overview

DNAstack is looking for an experienced engineer to manage a federated network of software instances. Here, you will work within the Customer Success team to deploy, monitor, maintain, and update our products for customers. You will be interfacing with some of the leading experts in genomic research and having an impact in research areas such as infectious disease, cancer, and neurodevelopmental disorders. You can expect to tackle a variety of challenging problems, and to deploy and manage robust, secure, and scalable cloud-based systems. You will have the opportunity to work remotely or from our office in downtown Toronto.

Responsibilities

• Deploy DNAstack's software products for sharing and accessing genomic data based on customer's scientific, technical, and security requirements
• Lead the cloud infrastructure design and deployment of the solution for the customer, ensuring the data is analyzed within trusted environments
• Automate application deployment and associated resources across all major clouds
• Identify and rapidly respond to bugs and service outages
• Work closely with the Project Manager to prioritize deployments and updates
• Update platform services (SQL databases, Kubernetes clusters) and monitor cloud costs to identify potential savings
• Identify and solve privacy and security gaps in platform infrastructure provisioned for customers
• Proactively identify architectural weaknesses and recommend appropriate solutions
• Create documentation for how particular solutions and deployments are architected
• Be an advocate for the customer's needs in DNAstack product roadmapping sessions

Skills

A successful candidate must have experience with:

• Kubernetes, Docker, and Linux
• At least one of the major cloud platforms: GCP, Azure, or AWS
• Proficiency with at least one scripting language (e.g. Bash, Python) with a willingness to learn others as necessary

A successful candidate in this role will have or be willing to develop these skills:

  • You will need to clearly communicate the rationale behind recommendations and document solutions

  • You will need to make recommendations and decisions based on overall value to DNAstack and the customer; that means factoring in different kinds of costs such as subscription/license fees, human hours spent (one-time and recurring), and cloud resources consumed
• Comfort with Scripting
  • You will inevitably need to write small-to-medium sized scripts to facilitate automation of processes

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or equivalent preferred; demonstrable understanding of systems, algorithms, and software design required
• At least 5 years of work experience in a related field (IT, DevOps, Release Engineer)
• Prior experience working directly with internal and external stakeholders
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
