Finance Manager

The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County (DSORC) is a not-for-profit charitable organization that has been supporting individuals and families impacted by dementia since 1980. Each year, we serve more than 60,000 people across the City of Ottawa and Renfrew County through guidance and support, social programs, education, and access to information and resources.

We are a collaborative and mission-driven organization with a team of 25+ employees working primarily in a flexible, remote environment, and coming together for occasional in-person connection and events.

About the role

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization’s financial management, reporting, and compliance.

You will lead financial planning, reporting, and analysis, while ensuring strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and effective stewardship of public and donor funding and helping guide the organization through the selection and implementation of a future accounting system.

You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and Board committees, while directly supervising and mentoring the Bookkeeper, Payroll and Benefits Administrator. This role blends hands-on operational oversight with strategic financial leadership and systems improvement.

What you’ll do

• Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and relevance for internal and external stakeholders
• Oversee all regulatory and government reporting, while developing forecasts, financial models, and analysis to support organizational planning and decision-making
• Drive continuous improvement of financial reporting processes, tools, and data quality
• Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting across the organization, including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow
• Provide financial insights, variance analysis, and recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team, partnering with program and operational leaders to support planning and performance tracking
• Lead the annual audit process, acting as the primary liaison with external auditors and supporting Board and committee reporting requirements
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, funding agreements, and regulatory requirements, while maintaining strong internal controls, policies, and awareness of evolving legislation
• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including payroll, benefits administration, cash flow management, and financial transactions
• Manage the monthly close process, including reconciliations, account analysis, and overall financial accuracy
• Mentor and support the Bookkeeper, strengthening capability, consistency, and overall financial operations
• Lead the evaluation and implementation of a future accounting system, while improving financial workflows, reporting tools, documentation practices, and data integrity across systems

What you bring

• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, combined with 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management roles
• Demonstrated experience leading core finance functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and audit support, along with a strong understanding of financial controls, compliance, and GAAP
• Experience supervising or mentoring staff, with the ability to build capability and support day-to-day financial operations
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and sound judgement
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate financial information into clear, actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders, and a high degree of integrity and accountability
• Experience working in a not-for-profit and/or government-funded environment, ideally with familiarity with Ontario Ministry of Health reporting requirements would be beneficial
• Experience with accounting systems (such as Microsoft Dynamics GP) and payroll/benefits platforms is considered an asset
• Bilingualism (English/French) and/or a CPA designation are strong assets but not required

Compensation and benefits

The hiring range for this position is $80,000–$87,000 annually, based on a 37.5-hour work week. Compensation within this range will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications.
