Job Description

 

De Beers Group has an opportunity within the Mine Operations Department at the Gahcho Kué Mine, Northwest Territories for a collaborative and tech savvy Mining Dispatcher. This is a fixed-term contract to February 2027. Reporting to the Dispatch Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for facilitating daily mine plan execution in the safest, most efficient manner, while always being mindful of continuous improvement opportunities. This will be accomplished through the use of a Fleet Management System (FMS). The department is fast paced, requiring a team member who can think on their feet and synthesize the information produced from the FMS in order to intelligently change priorities on short notice to drive efficiencies. The successful candidate will be operationally credible in order to provide direction to and maintain the accountability of a team of Heavy Equipment Operators. This role will be instrumental in translating business objectives into deliverables in the field. The ideal candidate is skilled at using a collaborative approach to address competing priorities, has a high attention to detail, committed to safe working practices and strives for zero harm.

Key responsibilities:

• Ensuring the efficient use of the Gahcho Kue haulage fleet by constant monitoring, adjustments to Dispatch optimization algorithms and manual interventions, as required;
• Issuing clear and concise work instructions to Load and Haul operators;
• Providing process advice to line leaders in order to identify and deliver sustainable improvements;
• Ensuring material movement priorities are executed as per the Mine Engineering Daily Plan;
• Working closely with the Mine Operations Data Analyst, to continuously update shift production data and conditions to ensure an extremely high level of accuracy in the data captured;
• Working with Modular Mining and Anglo Performance Assurance teams to implement improvement opportunities; 
• Maintaining all mine model parameters (i.e. new roads, dumps, maps, etc.) to ensure the accurate function of the Dispatch system;
• Liaising with Mine Maintenance personnel to ensure the efficient transfer of equipment to and from an operational state;
• Liaising with Mine Technology Specialists to ensure timely and accurate reporting of system defects;
• Holding Heavy Equipment Operators accountable for timely and accurate entries into the FMS;
• Using systems to continuously monitor the Gahcho Kue Mine for hazards, then reporting and acting accordingly;
• Facilitating the smooth and efficient transition between normal mining operations and shutdown states (i.e. shift changes, blasting, weather stoppages, industrial actions, etc.);
• Providing detailed commentary and contextual information to daily shift reports to explain variations to plan;
• Receiving emergency calls and acting according to Gahcho Kue Mining Emergency management plan; and
• Working with Mine Operations and Engineering teams to assess and improve KPI’s.

 

This is a site-based position working 14 days in/14 days out rotation.

Qualifications

Formal

Qualifications

:

• Minimum of a Grade Twelve (12) academic completion;
• A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a Mining environment;
• Previous experience running/using an FMS (i.e. MineStar, Modular Dispatch, HPGPS, etc.)
• Working experience of multiple shovel/drill/truck/track operations;
• Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills;
• Strong skills with the Microsoft Office Suite of programs;
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the specific ability to be clear and concise with radio communications;
• Conflict Management skills, including root cause identification of issues; 
• Natural leadership skills, with the ability to informally coach and performance manage others;
• Possess a high level of self-motivation and passion for technology;
• Skilled at planning tasks, setting priorities and altering priorities, using sound decision making;
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi task in a high pressure environment; and
• Proven commitment to Safety, Health and Environmental Standards.

Desirable Assets:

• Mine Engineering diploma/degree or equivalent;
• Previous knowledge of Modular Mining, or Provision
• Previous experience with KPIs and reporting tools (i.e. SQL, PowerBI, Excel, etc.)
