Tenure-Track Position in Landscape Evolution

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Full Professor in landscape evolution. We encourage applications from candidates who apply a diverse skill set to study landscape evolution in different environments. Specifically, we seek a colleague with expertise in sedimentology and geochemistry who considers field observations, remote sensing, and lab-based analytical techniques to charaterise and interpret records of landscape evolution. The suggested start date is July 1, 2027.

Title of the position: Full Professor

Terms : New tenure-track position

Wage: Salary scale for an Associate Professor rank starts at $109,776 and Full at $131,803 (as of May 1, 2025).

Duties: The responsibilities include:

teaching courses in earth and environmental sciences; supervising BSc, MSc and PhD students; developing an externally-funded research program; establish links with industry and government agencies; contributing to administrative and academic activities with the department and faculty.

Skill requirements

• PhD in Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or a related field
• Postdoctoral experience
• Excellent didactic skills are an asset
• Bilingualism: Excellent communication skills in either English or French. Passive knowledge of one’s second official language (French or English) is a requirement for tenure. English-French bilingualism is an asset.

Analytical laboratories on campus include microbeam (SEM, TEM, EMPA), X-ray (SCXRD, PXRD, XRF, Micro-CT), and geochemical (LA-ICP-MS, ICP-ES, ICP-OES) facilities, the Ján Veizer Stable Isotope Laboratory, and Canada’s National AE Lalonde Accelerator Mass Spectrometer Laboratory.
