BAS Designer

JMC is pleased to partner with PMC Energy Ltd. in recruiting their next Building Automation System (BAS) Designer.

PMC Energy Ltd. is seeking an experienced and technically strong professional to join its growing team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys detailed drafting and design work, takes pride in producing accurate documentation, and can work independently within a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Reporting to the BAS Engineering Manager, the BAS Designer will play a key role in supporting Building Automation System projects through detailed CAD drafting, technical documentation, and project coordination. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on reducing day-to-day design and drafting workload while supporting the successful delivery of BAS projects across commercial and industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce BAS drawings and documentation under the direction of the BAS Engineering Manager
• Complete detailed CAD drafting, including:
• Control schematics and wiring diagrams
• Controller and panel layouts
• BAS network and riser diagrams
• Point lists, I/O schedules, and device layouts
• Apply BAS standards, templates, and sequences consistently across projects
• Review sequences of operation and identify gaps, inconsistencies, or constructability concerns
• Support the development and refinement of BAS documentation standards, templates, and workflows
• Coordinate with BAS engineering, electrical, and field teams to resolve documentation-related issues
• Support project execution through submittals, construction clarifications, and as-built documentation
• Provide support for electrical drafting and coordination related to BAS and mechanical projects, including service upgrades, equipment feeds, and electrification work
• Apply strong HVAC system and control sequence knowledge, particularly in design-build or low-direction project environments
• Execute delegated tasks independently, accurately, and with minimal rework

What You Bring

• 5+ years of experience in BAS design, controls engineering, or a related technical role strongly preferred
• Exceptional candidates with 3+ years of relevant experience may be considered
• Mechanical or Electrical CET designation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Strong knowledge of BAS architectures, controllers, and field devices
• Solid understanding of HVAC systems and common control sequences
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• Experience with Revit is considered an asset
• Demonstrated experience producing coordinated BAS drawings and technical documentation
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to documentation quality
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of delegated work
• Practical, systems-oriented technical thinking
• Comfortable working with incomplete information and in design-build environments

Assets

• Experience working in a controls or integrated contracting environment
• Electrical drafting or design experience related to building services and equipment
• Working knowledge of electrical fundamentals, including power distribution and control systems
• Field experience related to BAS installation, commissioning, or troubleshooting
• Experience supporting energy optimization or efficiency-focused system upgrades
