Humanities Teacher

Full-time

Humanities & Project-Based Learning Teacher in Positive Youth Development High School

Whytecliff Agile Learning Centres – Langley, BC
Full-time | In person
Pay commensurate with experience
Expected start date: August 24, 2026, or earlier for the right person

Join Our Team at Whytecliff Agile Learning Centres

Are you an English, Socials, or Humanities teacher who wants to help students reconnect with learning — and help shape more than one subject area?

Whytecliff Agile Learning Centres in Langley, BC is looking for a versatile Humanities Teacher to join our team. The role has a strong English and Social Studies focus, but we are especially interested in a fully certified teacher who can teach across multiple subject areas and help build engaging, cross-curricular learning experiences across the program.

This is a good fit for a teacher who loves language, stories, history, ideas, current events, writing, discussion, and real-world questions — and who can turn those into projects that help students think, create, collaborate, and feel proud of their work.

We are especially interested in someone with leadership experience or leadership potential: a teacher who can help coordinate projects, support curriculum planning, organize learning experiences, work closely with colleagues, and turn good ideas into strong student experiences.

A Little About Us

Whytecliff is unique. We are a BC Ministry of Education accredited independent school and a CARF-accredited therapeutic Positive Youth Development program.

At our Langley campus, we work with a small group of 45-55 students in grades 8–12. Many of our students have struggled in traditional school settings and arrive with diverse learning needs, social-emotional challenges, anxiety, ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, school avoidance, low confidence, or a history of feeling that school has not worked for them.

That is why teaching here is different. We are not just trying to cover curriculum. We are helping students experience school as a place where they can belong, build skills, ask better questions, find their voice, and see themselves as capable learners.

We blend academics with Positive Youth Development, outdoor education, project-based learning, mental wellness, social-emotional growth, and real-world skill building. We are small enough to know students well, flexible enough to build around strengths and interests, and structured enough to help students grow.

Want to see more of the work we do?

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for a teacher who can make English, Social Studies, and Humanities feel meaningful to students who may not see themselves as “school people.”

You might be an experienced teacher, or you might be earlier in your career with strong teaching instincts, good judgement, creativity, and leadership potential. What matters most is that you can teach well, connect well, collaborate well, and help students engage with learning in ways that feel real.

You’re likely a strong fit if you:

  • Love language, stories, history, and ideas – You can help students see why reading, writing, discussion, research, media, and reflection matter.
  • Can reach reluctant learners – You know how to create entry points for students who are anxious, avoidant, discouraged, impulsive, or unsure of themselves academically.
  • Bring structure and imagination – You can plan clearly, teach well, and build projects that feel worth doing.
  • Think across subjects – You enjoy connecting English, Social Studies, Careers, media, art, current events, outdoor learning, wellness, and real-world questions.
  • Can lead a classroom and build community – You create calm, respectful routines while keeping the work warm, human, and engaging.
  • Care about growth beyond marks – You want students to build confidence, voice, responsibility, reflection, communication, and a stronger sense of possibility.
  • Have leadership or coordination potential – You can help organize projects, plan shared themes, coordinate learning experiences, support colleagues, and follow through on the details.
  • Work well with a team – You enjoy collaborating with other teachers, youth development workers, counsellors, families, and leadership.

Bonus if you can teach or co-teach across multiple areas, such as English, Social Studies, Careers, Arts, ADST, media, outdoor education, learning support, or project-based learning.

The Role: What You’ll Be Doing

This is a teaching role with a Humanities centre of gravity and a broader program purpose.

You will teach English and Humanities, support student learning across grades 8–12, and help strengthen the way projects, themes, field trips, student voice, and evidence of learning come together across the program.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Teaching English and Humanities courses – Planning and delivering engaging instruction in English, Social Studies, and related Humanities areas for students in grades 8–12.
  • Helping students reconnect with learning – Building confidence in students who may have struggled with reading, writing, discussion, focus, organization, attendance, or academic self-belief.
  • Designing cross-curricular projects – Creating projects that give students real reasons to read, write, research, discuss, revise, present, build, document, and reflect.
  • Supporting diverse learners – Adapting lessons, assignments, pacing, feedback, and assessment so students with IEPs and varied learning needs can participate with dignity and success.
  • Building classroom culture – Creating routines, expectations, and group norms that support belonging, focus, respectful disagreement, repair, and return to learning.
  • Coordinating learning experiences – Helping connect classroom learning with field trips, community experiences, student showcases, portfolios, presentations, and school-wide themes.
  • Supporting project-based learning across the program – Working with colleagues to turn student interests and curriculum goals into meaningful projects, public products, displays, presentations, or real-world learning experiences.
  • Using assessment meaningfully – Gathering evidence through observations, conversations, writing, projects, portfolios, presentations, performance tasks, and student reflection.
  • Collaborating with the team – Working closely with educators, youth development workers, counsellors, families, and leadership so students experience consistent support.
  • Communicating with families – Sharing progress, strengths, concerns, and next steps in a respectful and timely way.
  • Contributing to program leadership – Helping strengthen curriculum planning, project rhythms, student engagement, evidence of learning, and the overall life of the school.

Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada. We are not considering offshore applications for this role.
