Experienced Tutor

Sylvan Learning - Langley Sylvan Learning is the industry leader in supplemental education, helping students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 build confidence and achieve academic success. We are looking for enthusiastic part-time Reading & Writing Tutors who enjoy working with students. As a Sylvan Instructor, you will receive comprehensive training in the Sylvan teaching method and curriculum, along with the tools and support needed to teach in a small-group setting (up to 3 students per instructor). Responsibilities

• Teach reading and writing using Sylvan programs and instructional methods
• Support students in developing reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and writing skills
• Assist students with English homework and assignments when appropriate
• Motivate, encourage, and engage students throughout each lesson
• Recognize and reward student achievement
• Evaluate and document student progress
• Build positive relationships with students and create a fun, supportive learning environment

Hours of Instruction

• Monday–Thursday: 2:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
• Friday: 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
• Saturday: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field, or currently pursuing one
• Previous tutoring or teaching experience preferred
• Familiarity with the BC Curriculum is an asset
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and verbal English skills
• Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Passion for helping students build confidence and become stronger readers and writers
• Available to work 2+ shifts per week
