Assistant / Associate Professor – Academic Gastroenterologist
Position Overview
The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre invite applications for an Academic Gastroenterologist. The role is a full‑time appointment as a Clinician Teacher (CT) or Clinician in Quality and Innovation at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, with an expected start date of September 1, 2026, or a mutually agreeable date thereafter. The position is 80% clinical, 10% teaching and 10% administrative.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent clinical care for in‑patients and out‑patients.
- Maintain liaison with primary care physicians.
- Supervise trainees in a clinical care setting.
- Deliver formal teaching and scholarly activities.
- Perform advanced therapeutic endoscopy and endoscopic oncology procedures (25% general gastrointestinal care, 75% endoscopic oncology and advanced therapeutic endoscopy).
- Offer high‑quality upper and lower endoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic EUS, ERCP, and EMR/ESD.
Qualifications
- MD degree or equivalent and eligibility for certification in Gastroenterology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
- Eligibility for medical licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
- Advanced training in education or teaching and fellowship training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy.
- Expertise in endoscopic procedures: upper and lower endoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic EUS, ERCP, EMR/ESD.
- For the CQI position: advanced training in quality or innovation and evidence of scholarly achievement (peer‑reviewed publications, presentations, or awards).
- For the CT position: advanced training and achievement in teaching and education (track record of teaching, awards, education scholarship).
- Proficiency in English.
Compensation & Benefits
Estimated compensation: $350,000 – $500,000, commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.
Eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association, which administers clinical billings and benefits, and for group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
