Sous Chef

Isetta Cafe Bistro is seeking a talented and motivated Sous Chef to join our kitchen team.

The Sous Chef supports the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations, ensuring consistently high-quality food, excellent kitchen organization, and compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. The Sous Chef leads and motivates the culinary team while maintaining efficient service and a positive kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Chef with daily kitchen operations and service.
• Supervise, train, and motivate cooks and kitchen staff.
• Ensure food is prepared consistently according to recipes, quality standards, and presentation guidelines.
• Monitor food quality, portion sizes, temperatures, and plating.
• Coordinate kitchen workflow during busy service periods.
• Assist with menu development, specials, and recipe implementation.
• Manage food preparation, inventory, ordering, and proper storage.
• Monitor food costs, waste, and portion control.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of all kitchen areas and equipment.
• Conduct opening, closing, and kitchen safety procedures.
• Step in for the Chef when required.
• Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff and management.
• Address kitchen issues promptly and help maintain a professional, respectful workplace.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Sous Chef.
• Strong knowledge of culinary techniques and kitchen operations.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organization and time-management skills.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
• Ability to train and develop kitchen staff.
• Culinary education or equivalent professional experience is an asset.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and work for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry kitchen supplies and equipment.
• Ability to work in a hot, busy, and physically demanding kitchen environment.
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as required.
