The City of Victoria is hiring a Co ‑ op Student to support the planning, design, and delivery of water, sanitary, and storm infrastructure projects . In this role, you ’ ll work with teams that connect field data, engineering design, and long-term capital planning , and gain exposure to how essential water systems are managed and improved across the City.
This position offers a blend of office and field experience, with opportunities to support infrastructure investigations, review system data, and contribute to projects at various stages - from early planning through to design and construction. It’s a great fit for someone interested in municipal engineering who enjoys working with both technical information and real-world infrastructure, and wants to understand how integrated water systems are developed and maintained.

Auxiliary status employees will be paid an additional 15% in lieu of vacation, holiday, sick leave beyond the statutory requirement, and other benefits, per the CUPE Local 50 Collective Agreement.
POSITION FUNCTION
As a student hired under the Co-operative Educational Training Program, you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this Co-op position you will assist with supernumerary projects and contribute to the overall goals of the work unit.
KEY DUTIES
Under the direct guidance and observation of the supervisor, assist with the on-going enhancement of the City’s operations by utilizing existing tools and software platforms.
Participate in the development and improvement of future-focussed projects that align with the department’s strategic goals and objectives by providing supernumerary field or office support.
Conduct and document research, analyze and interpret data, prepare summary of findings, draft reports, procedures and/or practices, and present to supervisor for feedback and/or next steps.
Assist with identifying and testing new and/or enhanced tools and processes and collaborate to ensure ‘shared learning’.
INDEPENDENCE
Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.
Problems are referred to supervisor.

Qualifications
Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification
High School.
Enrolled in a recognized Co-operative Education Program at a Canadian Post-Secondary Institution.
Currently attending full-time education and returning to full-time studies in the subsequent academic year.
In good standing in an Undergraduate Degree Program or Technical School Diploma Program.
Experience
