About The Opportunity

Our client, a well-established organization in Ottawa, is seeking an Accountant to join their team.

This role plays a key role in supporting the organization’s financial operations and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This position is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting budgeting and audit processes.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Oversee and manage daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
• Process invoices and purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and proper authorization
• Maintain accurate financial records and coding within the accounting system
• Manage vendor payments and payment runs
• Complete month-end and year-end close processes, including bank reconciliations
• Prepare financial statements and reports for management and stakeholders
• Support the annual budgeting process and monitor budget-to-actual performance
• Administer billing processes and track incoming payments
• Prepare and file HST returns
• Oversee payroll processes administered through a third-party provider
• Support the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors
• Provide guidance on financial policies and procedures
• Recommend improvements to processes, systems, and internal controls
• Ensure financial policies and documentation are maintained and up to date

About You

The successful candidate will have the following:

• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Minimum 5 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience (not-for-profit experience considered an asset)
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
• Advanced Excel skills and strong Microsoft Office proficiency
• Solid understanding of Canadian GAAP and financial reporting requirements
• Strong analytical and financial reporting skills
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
• High attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities

About the Job

Hourly Rate: $35.00 to $38.00/hour (depending on experience)
