ABOUT THE ROLE
As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you’ll work as a valued member of our interdisciplinary team, helping clients reach their highest level of independence in self-care, work, and leisure activities. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, you will assess client needs, develop treatment plans, and provide recommendations that promote function and independence. You’ll also act as a resource and consultant to colleagues, other disciplines, and community partners, supporting the best possible care for each client
The Mental Health Rehabilitation Team is looking for a motivated and collaborative Occupational Therapist to join our interprofessional team in supporting the mission of St. Joseph’s Care Group. In this role, you will use your knowledge and experience in functional assessments, as well as your understanding of the complexities of addictions, mental health concerns, and physical, cognitive, and intellectual co-morbidities. An appreciation of safety, mobility, accessibility, accountability, best practices, and program evaluation is essential. The Mental Health Rehabilitation Program offers holistic, interprofessional care that is client-centred, strength-based, and grounded in self-management principles.

WHAT YOU BRING
Education/Experience:
- Degree or equivalent from an accredited occupational therapy program
- Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) and thorough knowledge of its Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
- Maintains/updates liability insurance on a yearly basis (as required by COTO)
- Knowledge and experience with motivational interviewing and strengths-based approaches to care psychosocial rehabilitation and the principles of self-management
- Knowledge and experience working with an adult population with serious and persistent mental health concerns and the development execution and evaluation of treatment plans utilizing SMART goals
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent assessment intervention and treatment and discharge planning skills
- Experience in providing individual and group interventions and psychoeducation
- Excellent knowledge of internal and external community resources as well as strong advocacy skills
- Ability to manage a clinical practice in a health care setting
- Ability to complete analysis, using clinical knowledge, skill and judgement to synthesize assessment information
- Ability to assess and treat psychosocial issues
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to work independently, interdependently, and participate as a contributing member of a variety of teams within the workplace, community, and ministries/agencies
- Strong project/time management, analytical/critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to use independent judgment and maintain confidentiality of records, actions, and information
- Demonstrated regular attendance at work
- Knowledge of the work and programs within St. Joseph's Care Group mental health and community resources and an understanding of relevant legislation (i.e. Mental Health Act Health Care Consent Act PHIPA) knowledge of other community services and programs for adults
Assets:
- Specialized experience or certifications (i.e. A.D.P. authorization) may be required or desirable for some positions
- Membership in Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) and/or Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists (OSOT) is strongly encouraged
- Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews cultural practices and understand the impact of colonization on Indigenous populations would be considered an asset
- Experience and training in evidence-based therapies such as CBT is an asset
Conditions of Employment:
- This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
- May be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation.
