Responsibilities
- Drive the overall software development lifecycle, working across functional teams to transform requirements into features.
- Manage development teams and processes, conduct software testing and maintenance.
- Apply deep knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and programming languages to develop high quality technology applications and services.
- Conceive and write detailed software implementations/code, ensuring adherence to security, logging, error handling, performance standards, and non‑functional requirements.
- Write, configure and integrate code to create software aligned with requirements, architecture patterns and technology standards.
- Decompose business requirements and translate them into detailed design specifications and code.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using COBOL and AS400CLP.
- Assess impact of design decisions on performance, schedule, budget, downstream components, and quality, recommending alternate solutions if required.
- Analyze and optimize application systems, monitor, track and enhance performance, and address maintenance issues.
- Support production issues, completing root‑cause analysis and diagnosis independently.
- Lead or conduct detailed code reviews, providing constructive feedback.
- Design solutions, write code, perform unit testing, develop appropriate artefacts/documentation, and facilitate final delivery.
- Devise new algorithms and data structures for target environment and platform attributes in alignment with architectural patterns.
- Recommend or automate approaches to streamline and integrate technological processes and/or systems to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Manage specific project deliverables and outcomes.
- Work independently and handle non‑routine situations.
- Perform unit, integration and regression testing to verify functionality as per project requirements or mainframe system functionality.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience with IBMAS400CLP, COBOL, in an IngeniumPAS environment.
- Development experience in INGENIUM, versions 5.x – 7.x.
- Experience in a systems development or production environment supporting life insurance applications.
- Knowledge of software development practices, concepts, and technology obtained through formal training and/or work experience.
- Understanding of technical/business environment and processes for life insurance products (whole life, term, disability, universal life, wealth, and health products).
- Hands‑on knowledge of INGENIUM product and business process functionality.
- Experience creating documentation using JIRA and Confluence.
- Ability to understand testing requirements, prepare test plans, write and execute test cases.
- Understanding of functional aspects and technical behavior of the underlying operating system, development environment, and deployment practices.
- Familiarity with the ecosystem that code operates in.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Collaborative and team‑oriented.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills – in depth.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $75,900.00 – $141,900.00 (Salaried). The salary represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type. Salaries may vary based on location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications. In addition to base pay, the total compensation package may include performance‑based incentives, discretionary bonuses, and other perks and rewards.
Benefits include health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
