HUMAN RESOURCES SPECIALIST, POLICIES AND PROJECTS

Human Resource Generalist (30 hours per week)
Main Purpose of the Job: The Human Resources Generalist plays a pivotal role in fostering a positive and thriving workplace culture. This position primarily supports comprehensive human resources functions, including recruitment, compensation, benefits administration, policy adherence, employee relations, and off-boarding . The HR Generalist also provides essential backup support for payroll processing and contributes to overall office operations and administration.
Duties and Responsibilities Human Resources
Policy Development & Compliance:
Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures in accordance with Alberta Employment Standards, Human Rights legislation, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, and other relevant federal and provincial laws.
Recruitment & Onboarding:
Manage the full recruitment cycle, including creating compelling job descriptions, posting advertisements on platforms like Indeed, screening resumes, conducting interviews and reference checks.
Onboard new employees into Dayforce/Ceridian and Microsoft Office systems
Train the leadership team on best practices for hiring, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
Provide ongoing guidance to the leadership team on employee performance management
Assist with compensation reviews and research to ensure competitive and equitable salary structures within the non-profit sector.

Employee Relations & Support:
Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding employment with the organization, including policies, procedures, health benefits, payroll, and timesheets.
Manage employee files and databases (trainings, certificates, licenses, and education), ensuring data integrity and maintaining accurate and confidential employee records with a strong focus on data privacy and security.
Collaborate with internal and external consultants on items related to HR compliance
Assist with special HR projects and initiatives as assigned

Monitor employee timesheets for bi-weekly payroll processing
Provide backup support for bi-weekly payroll processing and generate reports for the Finance Lead.
Collaborate with employees and the Finance Lead to ensure all departments have necessary office supplies within budget.
General Administrative Duties:
Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in office administration or human resources, preferably within a non-profit organization.
Strategic Thinking: Ability to analyze risk and provide strong risk mitigation procedures. Willingness to be innovative and creative in enhancing current processes. Strong interpersonal, crisis intervention, negotiation, and conflict resolution Strong public relations, interpersonal, and communication (written and verbal) skills. Technical Proficiency:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite .
Proficient in Ceridian Dayforce/Powerpay would be an asset
Proficient knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards, Human Rights legislation, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations , and other relevant federal and provincial laws.
Understanding of the effects of domestic violence and abuse
Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and the values of Rowan House Society
Commitment to understanding cultural humility, diversity, and supporting equality of opportunities.

~ Awareness of the unique cultural and spiritual needs of Indigenous individuals, families, and communities, and a strong understanding of the realities and issues impacting Indigenous communities.

Flexibility is required, as occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary
Extended periods of computer use may be required
