About FNTI (First Nations Technical Institute)

Since establishment in 1985, over 4000 students have graduated successfully from FNTI with certificates, diplomas and degrees, granted in partnership with Ontario’s Colleges and Universities. An Indigenous post-secondary institution, FNTI offers programs targeted at Indigenous learners across a wide range of post-secondary disciplines including aviation, health, business, and public administration. FNTI delivers programming locally through its main campus in Tyendinaga on Ontario’s beautiful Bay of Quinte, as well as in numerous community locations throughout Ontario.

Description:

The SSF (Student Success Facilitator) serves as the primary and ongoing point of contact for leaners following their admission to FNTI programs, as assigned by the Director, Learner Success and Service Delivery and the Dean, Aviation. In this role, the SSF develops and maintains strong, collaborative relationships with learners and faculty to ensure continuity of support, enhance learner success and strengthens FNTI’s institutional profile.

The SSF is responsible for coordinating and organizing all aspects of delivery session set-up and is required to attend portions of selected session to support effective delivery and address learner and faculty needs. Working under the direction of the Director, Learner Success and Service Delivery.

This role requires ongoing liaison with members of the Aviation Team and other FNTI staff to ensure seamless communication and service delivery. Throughout all responsibilities the SSF is expected to uphold and advance FNTI’s Mission, Vision and Values.

Responsibilities:

Academic, Virtual and In-Person:

• Attend Daily Aviation Morning Briefings, and coordinate with flight team regarding cohort schedules and flight training management.


• Attend Academic and SSF Team Meetings and support case management.


• Monitor student progression and reach out to the Director of Learner Success and Service Delivery and Dean of Aviation regarding concerns.


• Communicate with students regarding course information-schedules, questions, updates. Facilitate in person and virtual classrooms including providing logistical support, technical support (Brightspace/D2L) small group activities, monitor student interactions, monitor quizzes, record attendance and be a positive influence for students.


• Update Instructors and Cultural Advisor of any student information needed.


• Work closely with the student success team, academic Instructors, flight Instructors and Dean of Aviation to keep staff aware of students that need case management.


• Ensure that course evaluations are accessible to students and completed during designated class time.


• Provide class debriefs to track attendance and student progress-provide copies to the Director of Learner Success and Service Delivery, Dean of Aviation and Instructors.

Supports:

• Provide lists of mental health and wellness supports available to students by request


• Assist students with scholarship and bursary applications.


• Lead and/or support The Campus Life and Aviation Success Coordinator (CLASC) with student relationship building activities i.e. Feasts, creative workshops, outings, assisting with circles and ceremonies.


• Provide transportation to students who require it to and from airports/train stations/hotels etc. when arriving or departing campus.


• Provide transportation for weekly scheduled grocery trips after classes.


• Provide transportation for medical appointments as needed.


• Provide student transportation to Transport Canada exam Centres.


• Shopping-meal supports, healthy snacks, activity supplies, meal planning and prep, arrange for catering for class events and training.


• Process payment requisitions for recreational and class activities, exams, flight training, catering etc.


• Attend meetings with student by request as support; Academics, flight training, discipline, and personal issues.


• Coordinate mail deliveries to students.


• Ensure completion of student forms; general information, media release, students guides, etc.

Student Relationships and Records:

• Maintain electronic student files, as needed, updating as


• Commence, continue and develop student relationships by maintaining on-going communication with students of assigned cohorts; assisting them with all course/program related non-academic issues; responding to enquiries between sessions, forwarding to the appropriate resources, as


• Forward information to the Records Office such as confirmed class lists and grades in a timely


• Potential student completion lists.

Logistics for each session:

• Coordinate all aspects of a session/delivery –room arrangements; travel, accommodations for faculty; snacks/meals; supplies for delivery.


• Ensure that classrooms are set up appropriately and provide a safe learning environment.


• Provide last minute logistical support as required; photocopies, break-out rooms,

• Relevant 2-year post-secondary diploma and a minimum of three years’ relevant experience preferably in an Indigenous educational environment. FNTI will consider a comparable combination of education and

Conditions of Employment:
