The Community and Human Services Department has an opening for a permanent full -time Community Relations Supervisor . This is a non-unionized position reporting to the Assistant Manager – Affordable Housing Policy & Partnerships. This position is to ensure the effective and efficient tenant and community relations, promotion of Housing programs and services, and special events coordination.

DUTIES:

Policy, Program Delivery and Reporting:

• Liaise with community partners , inform community agencies about Housing programs; referr tenants to Community and Human Services, and advocate for tenants with community agencies.


• Identify and obtain appropriate support for “at risk” tenants (i.e. tenants with psychological/social problems, dementia, addictions).


• Create, publish, and distribute housing newsletters.


• Promote Housing programs and services through local media as required.


• Act as a resource person for Property Supervisors and Non-Profit Housing Providers.


• Delivery of Backyard Bonanza Summer Day Camp Programs including Food Programs and operate out of the Tracey Park Drive Resource Centre.


• Deliver fire safety sessions and conducting annual fire drills at housing services properties.


• Facilitate Non Violent Crisis Intervention through Crisis Prevention Institution (CPI) training to all Community and Human Services Staff, summer staff and Facilities staff.


• Other related duties as assigned.

Leadership:

• Assist tenant groups with the scheduling and organizing of special events; foster effective working relationships with tenant groups; conflict resolution between tenants and tenant groups.


• Recruit and supervise summer students and college placement students.


• Provide support to the Home for Good program when required.


• Assist with the completion of Internal Reviews when required.

Finance

• Research and apply for funding opportunities relevant to Housing, and for programs not usually funded by traditional Housing sources.


• Report to funders and provide statistical data.


• Administer community relations budget.

Health and Safety:

Protect own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety. Follows all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and County policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Two-year College Diploma in social work, human services or recreation.


• Valid “G” license.


• Three years’ experience in the field of front-line social work.


• Two years’ experience addressing the needs of social housing tenants and low-income people.


• Experience dealing with the media and political bodies.


• Sound investigative and supervisory skills.


• Good knowledge of the principles and practices used in the field of social work.


• Knowledge of social housing and issues frequently faced by tenants residing in social housing.


• Ability to deliver programs at the community level from a municipal perspective.


• Good knowledge of local social agencies and services.


• Knowledge of legislation and regulations related to social housing issue.


• Strong computer skills.


• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.


• Ability to prioritize.

HOURS OF WORK:

• Normal hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours/week).


• Occasional overtime may be required for project completion.


• On-Call Requirements

WAGE RANGE: $79,105 - $92,541 per annum with excellent fringe benefits
