Job Summary:

The incumbent provides professional and administrative support in developing, coordinating, delivering and evaluating youth oriented recreation programming. The incumbent also connects with at-risk youth to provide support and resources. Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Coordinates and implements a variety of land-based cultural, community recreation and wellness programs for youth.
2. Provides guidance, orientation, coordination and scheduling for recreation program instructors, leaders, support workers, volunteers and staff as required.
3. Coordinates the involvement of Elders in programming, ensuring that programming is culturally relevant.
4. Collaborates with other community organizations to provide comprehensive support for youth.
5. Develops restorative policies and processes for youth, to allow for continued access to programming.
6. Performs administrative duties including conducting research, compiling statistics and preparing reports.
7. Works collaboratively with other Recreation Coordinators in planning and modifying programming as youth programs develop and grow.
8. Actively connects and networks with various organizations within the Territory, including Yukon First Nation governments, community organizations, and specific partnerships identified in strategic plans and funding objectives.
9. Follows, so far as is reasonably practicable, established safety procedures and standards.
10. Act for Program Leadhand when required.
11. Other related duties as required.

Position Requirements

Working Conditions:

Majority of the work is performed under a public recreation setting environment with some exposure to noisy conditions and bodily fluids. Evening and weekend work is required.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Diploma in Recreation and Leisure, Outdoor Education, Child Development, or a related field.
• A minimum of 2 years’ progressive experience and 2 months on the job experience.
• Standard First Aid Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS)
• RCMP Vulnerable Sector check.
• Experience leading and supervising groups of various ages during recreational activities.
• Knowledge of community organizations offering recreation and youth services in the territory.
• Knowledge of traditional and cultural activities related to recreational, health and wellness programming.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of youth development principles and practices.
• Comprehension of restorative principles and practices.
• Good organizational and prioritization skills, ability to multitask with minimal supervision.
• Good written and oral communication skills to develop communication materials.
• Class 5 driver’s license.
• Class 4 driver’s license is an asset.
• 40 Hour Wilderness First Aid is an asset.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Examples of Equipment to Operate:

Vehicle, first aid equipment and general office equipment including computer skills to operate software programs related to ERP systems, spreadsheets, word processing, electronic mail, power point, etc.
