The Organization
For over 40 years, Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada (BTFC) has been dedicated to supporting,
educating, and empowering everyone affected by a brain tumour while funding research and
advocating for better outcomes. Our vision is to find the cause of and a cure for brain tumours while
improving the quality of life for those affected.
The Role
The Manager, National Events & Community Engagement will plan, develop, manage and drive the
growth and impact of the Foundation’s national Walk program, as well as community events, which
take place across the country. As a superb people and project manager, the Manager will mentor
and oversee one staff member and collaborate with volunteers across the country. They will also
develop, implement and continuously improve operational processes, tools, timelines and
documentation to support the efficient delivery of the events portfolio. Travelling across the
country, the Manager is the lead for all events and ensures success and achievement of financial
goals.
The Manager reports to the Director of External Relations and works closely and collaboratively with
all the teams across the Foundation. In this role, the individual serves as a member of the
Foundation’s leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic management and oversight
• Strategically plan, develop, coordinate, and manage all logistics for the Foundation’s annual
national Walk initiative supporting 21 individual walks and raising $1.5 million (gross)
revenue.
• Plan, develop, coordinate and manage all (35-50) nationally based community events in
support of Foundation’s overall mission, raising $650,000 revenue, while identifying new
opportunities to grow the program.
• Create and manage revenue and expense budgets for the Foundation’s national walk
initiative and community events program.
• Attend national events supporting Walk initiatives and community events program.
• Support event data management by collaborating with Foundation teams to ensure all
systems are synched and appropriately utilized, while assessing reporting needs and working
with Finance on completion of all financial transactions.
• Contribute to the development of annual budgets and operating plans as a member of the
Foundation’s leadership team.
• Contribute to overall operational and management discussions and decisions in support of
Foundation’s mission.
Project and team management
• Develop and maintain open, collaborative and trusting relationships with Foundation team
and national volunteers to support the growth of national events.
• Monitor overall project progress, meeting key milestones, navigating process updates and
informing strategies to address challenges through staff and volunteer input and
collaboration.
• Lead, coach, develop and inspire team members through one-on-one supervision of Events
Associate.
• Liaise with development team in support of sponsorship initiatives and fundraising activities.
External Relations and Partnerships
• Build, liaise, support and coordinate with national volunteers as part of the Foundation’s
national fundraising events.
• Act as an ambassador for the Foundation at national events.
• Identify and cultivate suppliers and partners in support of the Foundation’s goals.
• Serve as a member of the fundraising team through the dedicated development and support
of event fundraising and cultivating event attendees to grow their interest and engagement
with the Foundation.
Collaboration and cross-organizational alignment
• Provide organization-wide leadership coverage as required, including supporting or
supervising other teams, making decisions and managing operational matters during the
absence of another manager.
• Model and promote the principles of the Foundation’s Collaboration Charter in all
interactions, decisions, and working relationships.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the Foundation’s priorities and operations.
Performance Outcomes
• Fundraising impact: increased number of community events, revenue growth, event
attendance participation and donations
• Partnerships: continuing partnership and growth in number of event partners.
• Efficiency: reduced expenses, effective use of resources, collaborative and streamlined
processes, strong cross-team alignment.
• Leadership: strong coaching and mentorship of staff members.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
• University degree in communications, marketing, business or arts and humanities.
• Diploma in Events Management and/or CFRE an asset.
• 7-10 years of event planning experience.
• Experience working within an organization with a national focus, staff, volunteers and board
members.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills and proven ability to manage complex and
intricate event logistics.
• Proven success in developing, planning and managing national events.
• Superb project management, process development and logistical planning skills.
• Strong knowledge and experience in working with volunteer committees and understanding
the value volunteers bring to the event experience.
• Strong budget planning and management skills.
• Experience hiring, mentoring and managing teams.
• Solutions oriented, with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
• Experience working in a not-for-profit environment.
• Proficiency with CRM systems, digital marketing tools and analytics platforms.
• Service oriented with strong interpersonal and collaborative skills and the ability to influence
colleagues to execute national events.
• Criminal Record Check Level 2 required.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000
