The organizational structure reflects a community of individuals with aphasia, their families, volunteers, staff, and supporters who are dedicated to reducing language barriers to full-life participation at local, provincial, national, and international levels. We aim to give hope and make a difference to the quality of life and well-being of individuals with aphasia and their families, wherever they may be. We aspire to change society so that communicative access is universally accepted for all those affected by aphasia.

WHAT IS THE JOB

The Coordinator, Communications and Fund Development, plays a vital role in supporting the Aphasia Institute in our fundraising and communications efforts, contributing to the achievement of both operational and strategic goals. Reporting to the Director, Finance and Operations, the Coordinator supports the annual fund development plan to raise the organization's profile and improve funding; this includes planning and supporting fundraising events, engaging and stewarding donors, developing grants, and maintaining donor data.

The role also involves developing, implementing and evaluating clear, consistent, and impactful communications and marketing materials and content for both internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities of the position include, but not limited to:

Fund Development

  • Supports the development, implementation and evaluation of the annual fundraising plan aligned with the Aphasia Institute's operational plan and fund development goals.
  • Collaborates with the Board Fund Development Committee, contributing to the development and execution of marketing strategies to achieve stated objectives for donor cultivation and revenue generation.
  • Supports stakeholder engagement in fundraising activities by communicating with internal and external stakeholders — including staff, members, families, volunteers, partners, donors and the public — to build relationships and foster understanding and awareness.
  • Manages and maintains the fundraising and donor database/CRM software and provides timely tax receipts to donors monthly.
  • Collaborates on donor cultivation and revenue generation strategies.
  • Engages stakeholders and ensures donor recognition.
  • Research grants and manages donor database/CRM software.
  • Provides fundraising reports and supports events like Talk Walk n' Roll and Annual Appeal.

Communication

  • Creates compelling and accurate content and manages diverse communication materials and platforms include impact stories, social media posts, newsletters, website content, fundraising materials, and reports, ensuring consistent messaging and timely delivery of information.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates marketing and communications to support key Fund Development activities (e.g. Annual Appeal, Talk, Walk ‘n Roll, Monthly Giving; Planned Giving) including utilizing print, website, social media, and direct mail.
  • Establishes and ensures consistent corporate image and branding throughout promotional materials, websites, and events.
  • Tracks and analyzes communication campaign performance to identify areas for improvement.
  • Maintains website and analyzes campaign performance.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • University Degree or College Diploma in Communications, Marketing, Business, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience in communications, marketing and fundraising; non-profit sector experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on clarity and audience engagement.
  • Proven ability to simplify complex topics into compelling narratives.
  • Proficiency in executing communications marketing across communication platforms, including strong command of social media (Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook and Bluesky).
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal skills to engage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office 365 Suite (with a focus on Excel), Adobe, Canva, Direct Mail, and social media analytics tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of collecting and analysing communication metrics and developing data-driven improvement strategies.
  • Experience using donor database CRMs.
