Director of Fund Development and Communications

Position: Director of Fund Development and Communications Reporting To: President and CEO

Purpose:

The Director of Fund Development and Communications is a strategic leadership role responsible for designing and implementing multi-year fundraising and communications plans to support Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities' mission and growth. This includes leading major giving, annual campaigns, planned giving, foundation and corporate fundraising, digital and print communications, media relations, and stakeholder engagement

Scope and Accountability: Fundraising:

• Collaborate with the CEO to create a fund development plan that increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization.
• Develop and execute integrated and innovative fund development strategies for:

- Foundation Grant Proposals- Individual Appeals and Major Gift Proposals- Corporate Appeals & Engagement- Monthly Giving- Planned Giving & Bequests- Third-Party Events & Activities

• Identify grant opportunities and oversee the proposal process.
• Research and profile foundation, corporate, and other funding prospects.
• Develop compelling grant proposals, appeals, and other fundraising communications.
• Create and promote a new monthly giving program for individuals.
• Oversee donor and funder cultivation, recognition, and stewardship.
• Report on and update the Fund Development and Communications key performance indicators.
• Ensure organizational compliance with fundraising policies and government regulations.

Communications:

• Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive, multi-faceted communications and marketing plan aligned with SCHC's strategic priorities.
• ·Advise on and oversee internal and external communications and organizational awareness at the senior level.
• Develop and enforce consistent adherence to the organization's brand identity.
• Ensure policies and procedures are in place for brand standards application.
• Oversee production of communications materials, including newsletters, website content, briefing documents, and provide communications support to the Chief Executive Officer.
• Proactively seek opportunities to raise awareness and strengthen the organization's public profile.
• Manage media relations and act as the primary point of contact for media inquiries.

Stakeholder Engagement:

• Bring a diversity perspective to public affairs, community engagement, and communications, ensuring an inclusive approach to reaching intended audiences.
• Develop effective relationships with stakeholders, including clients, funders, partners, and government agencies.

Leadership and Team Management:

• Provide leadership and mentoring to Fund Development and Communications staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
• Work proactively to build a culture of philanthropy and forge strong commitments and ties to the community, building awareness of the position and its role within the organization.
• Meets quarterly with the Senior Leadership Team to review upcoming grant applications and fundraising initiatives, assess project ideas, and identify areas of need.
• Contribute to ongoing development, evaluations, accreditation requirements, and quality improvements within the department and organization.
• Support a workplace that embraces diversity and inclusion, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in fundraising, donor relations, and communications, ideally in a not-for-profit.
• Experience in managing websites and social media platforms for a business or non-profit organization.
• Excellent interpersonal and relational skills, and demonstrated ability to work with donors, funders, volunteers, staff, and Board of Directors, ideally in a non-for-profit.
• Ability to provide thoughtful, progressive, and strategic guidance.
• Demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve practical problems.
• Ability to identify, influence, and collaborate with key stakeholders to achieve desired organizational outcomes.
• Proficiency in donor database software and digital communication tools.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proficiency in developing and delivering presentations.
• Candidate must work from a strong equity and inclusion framework.
• Ability to work within a busy, dynamic environment and with a diverse community.
