Information & Instructional Technology Services (IITS) provides the technological vision and leadership for the development and implementation of information systems, processes, and associated technology to support the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus' academic mission and administrative operation. IITS works closely with faculty, staff, and student groups to provide timely, top-quality service and technological solutions across the University of Toronto Scarborough community. IITS is modernizing campus technology services to strengthen security, resilience, automation, cloud readiness, and support for emerging AI-enabled teaching, research, and administrative needs.

Your opportunity:

As a member of the Application Development team, you will help design, develop, test, implement, and support applications used across UTSC. The role will have a strong focus on ServiceNow application development and platform solutions, while also contributing to full-stack and web application development where required. Working with senior developers, technical teams, and campus clients, you will translate business requirements into secure, maintainable solutions, build integrations, troubleshoot issues, and support applications through their full lifecycle.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing, testing, and maintaining applications, features, scripts, and integrations in ServiceNow and other supported application platforms.
• Writing complex, maintainable code using JavaScript and, where applicable, web technologies and frameworks such as PHP, Java, HTML, CSS, and related tools.
• Working with users and business partners to understand requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
• Developing and supporting REST/API-based integrations, data exchanges, and database-driven applications.
• Participating in application design, code review, testing, source control, deployment, and structured change management processes.
• Applying appropriate security, access-control, data-integrity, and privacy practices in application development.
• Troubleshooting application issues, documenting solutions, and providing technical and end-user support and learning new technologies and platform capabilities and applying development best practices under the guidance of senior team members
• Creating and maintaining technical, operational, and end-user documentation.

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or College Diploma in Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering, or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.
• Minimum four (4) years of application or software development experience.
• Demonstrated experience developing with JavaScript and working with structured, modular application code.
• Experience with web technologies such as HTML and CSS, and exposure to one or more server-side languages or application frameworks.
• Experience working with relational databases or database-driven applications.
• Experience with Git or another source control management system.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle practices, testing, troubleshooting, and production support.
• Ability to analyze requirements, solve technical problems, and learn unfamiliar technologies quickly.
• Strong communication, organizational, and customer-service skills, with the ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.

Assets (Nonessential):

• Hands-on development experience with ServiceNow, including scripting, Flow Designer, App Engine, integrations, or custom application development.
• Experience consuming or developing REST APIs and working with JSON; exposure to XML or SOAP is an asset.
• Experience with full-stack application development using technologies such as PHP/Laravel, Java/Spring, JavaScript, or comparable frameworks.
• Experience working with ServiceNow or another enterprise PaaS/SaaS platform.
• Experience working in a structured Change Management environment (CAB or equivalent).
• ITIL Foundation certification or ServiceNow certification such as Certified System Administrator or Certified Application Developer.
• Familiarity with Agile development, product delivery, or enterprise application support.
