Join our dynamic dental team at BC Children’s Hospital as a Certified Dental Assistant, providing essential support in all aspects of dentistry performed in both the Outpatient Clinic, the Dental Operating Room and offsite Dental Operating Room.
A key part of your role will be assisting dentists with a broad range of dental procedures, ensuring high-quality patient care while maintaining strict adherence to provincial regulations and infection control standards.
In addition to direct patient care, including preventive, restorative, and specialty treatments, you will help prepare patients, support dentists with accurate record keeping, manage dental instruments and equipment, and deliver oral health education. You will also support practice management tasks such as inventory control, patient scheduling and contributing to the smooth operation of the dental clinic.

?
The Dental Clinic offers comprehensive preventative treatment, therapeutic oral health diagnosis and expert consultation for infants, healthy children under 4 years of age and for medically complex children and youth.
The following patients are eligible for treatment in the Dental Clinic and operating room:
- Children under four years of age with severe dental decay
- Children under 17 years of age with a significantly compromising medical condition, such as cancer, organ transplant, congenital heart disease, cleft lip/palate, craniofacial anomaly, severe bleeding disorder or unmanageable pain
- Children under 17 years of age who are medically diagnosed with a complex developmental condition, such as autism or severe developmental delay
What you’ll do
- Assist dentists with all aspects of dentistry performed in the Outpatient Clinic or Dental Operating Room.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of dental and medical health records; complete statistics for the Outpatient Department and Operating Room.
- Maintain dental instruments and equipment; maintain appropriate levels of dental supplies, linen, stores and pharmacy supplies.
- Expose and process analogue and digital diagnostic quality dental radiographs; make dental impressions, prepare models and perform other related laboratory duties.
- Perform prophylaxis, fluoride and fissure sealant procedures.
- Demonstrate preventative techniques to patients in clinics both within and outside the hospital.
- Assist with the maintenance of quality assurance standards and their documentation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring
Qualifications
- Graduation from a recognized Certified Dental Assistant program plus one (1) year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Current registration and licensure as a Certified Dental Assistant as required under the Dentist Act.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples in social and health contexts, including supported by significant knowledge of Indigenous-specific mandates, including clear understanding of and commitment to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism and discrimination and embed Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts. This includes understanding how these factors contribute to current health disparities and barriers to care. Show a clear commitment to identifying, challenging, and eradicating Indigenous-specific racism and all forms of discrimination impacting equity-deserving groups within health care settings. This involves familiarity and understanding Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility recognizing personal biases, institutional barriers, engaging in anti-racism education and training and advocating for systemic change.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within BC Children’s Hospital contexts found in the foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study - BC Human Rights Code, BC Anti-racism Act and how they intersect across the health care system.
