JOB SUMMARY :
The Packaging Designer is responsible for determining the technical specifications that are used to quote and manufacture flexible packaging. A key output is drafting precise dielines for downstream manufacturing processes. In addition, you will be an important technical resource for colleagues and customers to ensure packaging specifications are correct and fall within machine capabilities. You will also create physical packaging prototypes to support new development.
JOB TASKS :
- Determine packaging technical specifications (size, features, specialty venting) (may have to cross reference multiple information sources including reaching out to customers and food packing facilities)
- Evaluate existing package samples and document their measurements and features
- Read existing dielines and machine manufacturer drawings
- Draft drawings (referred to as dielines) using Adobe Illustrator, maintain current drafting standards, maintain organized digital dieline library
- Troubleshoot problems as they arise with internal manufacturing departments and external packing facilities
- Teach and train coworkers and customers about the technical aspects of various types of packaging
- Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and other internal departments to provide technical consultation and packaging evaluations
- Stay informed about advancements in packaging technologies and processes
- Conduct quality checks on production drawings and product specification forms
- Produce physical packaging prototypes
COMPETENCIES :
- Must be proficient in the use of Illustrator, PhotoShop, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software programs
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Must have proven consulting skills
- Must have strong presentation skills
- Must have demonstrated creative thinking skills
- Must have strong technical aptitude and analytical skills
- Must have strong time management and organizational skills
- Must have demonstrated strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy; detail-oriented
REQUIRMENTS :
- Complete testing per WIN_0096 - General Hiring Practice Guidelines
- University degree or college diploma in a related field of study, or ten (10) years' experience in a similar role
PREFERRED :
- Experience with packaging design and engineering drawings.
- Experience with graphic layout
- Knowledge of packaging production technology and methods.
- Five (5) years' experience in a flexographic print production environment
